Please help me find the marriages for the following children of William Sokoll b1842 and Harriet Goundry b1849:
Frederic Sokoll b1871
Henry Sokoll b1877
Eliza Jane Sokoll b1880
Ernest Alfred Sokoll b1883
Walter Sokoll b1888
Adelaide Sokoll b1890
William and Harriet were married 10/1869. In 1871 the lived in Low Spennymoor, in 1881 they lived in Sunderland Bridge and in 1891 they lived in Hett Croxdale and in 1901 they were back in Low Spennymoor. They had two other children: Louisa who married Robert Flocket and Albert who married Abigail Mckenzie. Note: on the 1881 census their last name was transcribed as Salkield.
Thanks,

The marriages should be on freebmd - have you looked?
www.freebmd.org.uk
You could also check the 1911 census for the sons to see if they had spouses at that time. The 1911 will also give you the number of years married to help narrow any search
The free 1911 index has entries in Durham for Ernest,Walter and Henry - who is shown as Harry - all as Sokell
Louisa who married Robert Flocket
Albert who married Abigail Mckenzie
In both marriages and births - the surname is Sokell - not Sokoll
The following instructions may help determine other members of the 1911 households
USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living
Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else
In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district
In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index
Click SEARCH
The 1911 census is strictly pay per view so you will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

Thank Wozzle and Carole. Special thanks for the 1911 website and the instructions. Forgive my lack of experience for not thinking of Sokell instead of sokoll. some day I will figure it out ::)

It's one of those surnames that is probably "spelt as it sounds" so you will probably encounter several variations

Hi
Carole makes a good point about variations of surname on William Sokoll according to 1881 Census he was born at Manfield, not far from here in North Yorkshire is the village of Great Smeaton a few years back on a visit to the records office in Northallerton I was looking for Salkeld. In a span from 1786 to 1914 I recorded BMD`s from the Great Smeaton Parish Register these are all the surname variations I found from this one village Salkeld, Sawkeld, Sokell, Soakeld, Sokeld, Sokel, and Soakell.
For sure you have your work cut with the surname other similar sounding surnames in this area are Sawkill & Sawkell send me a PM if you would like the Great Smeaton & Manfield entries from my database you can have these no problem.
