I haven't seen any for a while
-
My guess is that they have run out of people requesting them, probably temporarily.
-
Might be because Barbara (Tephra) has been away and hasn't had time to sort them out since she has been back.

I doubt that. I just don't think most RCers, apart from a small group, were made very aware of them. I only ever seemed to come across them when they were already well under way and about 33 pages long (I exaggerate a little!). Very difficult to join in when you'd have to invest all that time in order to catch up.
Long ago, before the scavenger hunts got going, I suggested a Brickwall Board intended to serve the same purpose, but it was dismissed because 'that's what Rootschat is all about anyway'. I think that may well have hit the nail on the head. Who knows! ::)

Hi there.... excuse my ignorance but being new to this could someone briefly explain what a scavenger hunt is. I had a quick look at the FAQ but couldn't didn't find anything. Regards ShashF
-
So right there Jill, I only ever see them when they are well underway and have no hope of catching up with what is going on
-
what do they bring to the table that an ordinary search thread doesnt?
Surely people looking to help go for all threads anyway - in fact sometimes theres quite a crowd around!
-
Hi Shash
Welcome to Rootschat :D
The Scavenger Hunts were a weekly thread in the Common Room where people had hit a brickwall.
They appeared to me to be where people had already had help elsewhere on Rootschat, eg on the county boards, but were still stuck and were seeking help from a wider audience who then gathered allsorts of random information for them which often helped break the wall down.

Hi,
As Jan said Barbara was away for a month, there were two hunts going while she was away, I am sure once Barbara has caught up with things, the hunts will be back on.
Cheers

Hi Jan
Thanks for the welcome and the scavenger hunt info... sounds like all have great fun, being a beginner it all sounds so exciting. I'll definitely watch for the next hunt, who knows - I might just pick up a tip on where to get off the mark !
Thanks again
Shash

KHP and Groom hit the nail on the head when they said I'd been away - for six weeks - and I really haven't had the time to get back into them, but there will be another Hunt next week.
Actually, we've just celebrated our 4th Birthday of Scavenger Hunts and very successful they've been, in fact, there's still information coming in on many of the Hunts - even the very early ones.
If you'd like a Scavenger Hunt, ShashF (Welcome to Rootschat ;D) just send me a PM and I'll organise one for you.
Each week, the new Hunt is posted on this thread, http://www.rootschat.com/links/0fqk/ it's also posted on the previous Scavenger Hunt thread, and it should come up in 'Show Unread Posts'

I'm sure you'll sneak a look in ;D

I feel that I must apologise for the lack of Scavenger Hunt action while Barbara was away.
Although she did leave me several contacts for Hunts, 2 of them did not answer PM's I sent regarding their participation. So we had 2 weeks without a Hunt running because of this.
On the other hand there were 3 Hunts undertaken while she was away.
Cheers

don't worry Karenlee i thought you had just run out of participants :)
-
No problem, Karen. Sometimes that happens :D

Does this mean I am sacked??? :o

Till next time ;)

Hello to all, Its been a whiles since i was here last.
I actually wanted to know if i could reopen an old scavenger hunt regarding John cook, I got all the help I could with it in i think 2011 without finding his birth place. I recently received some info on that but still need the expertise of some of you talented individuals. Shall i open the old hunt or just start another post. :)
Cheers for now Sylvia
-
Hi Sylvia,
I guess that if the new info is relevant to your scavenger hunt - same person etc, then I would add it to the old thread. That will hopefully make sure that people don't duplicate any research already done, and you also have all the known facts to hand as it were.
If it is not really relevant to the scavenger hunt - the 3x gt grandaunt of the person for example ;) then I would do a new thread (but put a link to the old one).
Hope that makes sense :-\
-
Thanks spider.
I will do as you say and add it to the old hunt since its about the same person.
Cheers Sylvia
