Title: Which Graveyard
Post by: islayhawk on Sunday 16 October 11 20:49 BST (UK)
Can anyone tell me how I can find the grave that my Grandparents would be buried in. They both died in the Partick area of Glasgow in 1947 and 1949 and were Roman Catholic. grandfather was Arthur Hart and Grandmother Margaret Hart m/s Gillan.
Have the graveyards of Glasgow been listed and are they available online

Peter, there are many cemeteries in Glasgow. Have a look www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,510660.0.html and reply #3 there regarding cemeteries.

There are a number of RootsChatters here on the Lanarkshire board with a huge amount of knowledge in this area. Hopefully they will see your message and provide some guidance  :)

If they are buried in the Roman catholic graveyard of St Peter's you will be able to find their burial record on Scotlandspeople under the catholic records.

The nearest Catholic cemetery to Partick would be St Kentigern's at Lambhill, next to the Western Necropolis.

My Gran stayed around the same area and died in 1948, she was also catholic, she is buried in St Kentigerns cemetery in Lambhill.  I knew her date of death but not the cemetery but the gentleman at the Mitchell Library suggested St Kentigerns and after looking at the microfilm for 10 mins I managed to locate her grave.  I am going to try and find it next week so fingers crossed.

There is an existing post on St Kentigerns Cemetery here on RC www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,512075.0.html which may be of interest.

Thats great - thanks for the info. I live hundreds of miles from Glasgow  and I cannot get to the Mitchell so I will need to try and get the grave numbers by telephone etc

Hi Islayhawk

I should be going to the Mitchell next weekend so if you could give me the dates of your grandparents death I could try and look for you.

Thats great, having the exact dates make it much easier even if we don't know the graveyard. I will let you know what I find. :D

Hi Isleyhawk,

I went up to the Mitchell after work today and good news, I managed to locate your grandparents. As my gran is in St Kentigerns Cemetery I started with that and there they both were!

Arthur Hart - Buried 1st Dec 1947 Age 79. Place of Death - 74 Chancellor St.
Reg No - 24789. Lair No 965.  Section 13. Class C.

Margaret Harte (this is how it is spelt in the extract) -Buried 25th Oct 1949 Age 79.  Place of Death - St Jos Home.  Reg No - 24789. Lair No 965. Section 13. Class C.

As you can see the burial records are identical I haven't just mistyped.

Hope this helps.

If you have a look at this thread: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,512075.0.html

You'll be able to download a copy of the section map for St. K's.
