Title: Carlish's American Tailors, Fleet Street
Post by: stewart_M on Tuesday 11 October 11 17:27 BST (UK)
My great grandfather was a tailor before the first world war and I have a wonderful photograph of he and his colleagues standing outside their shop, Carlish's American Tailors, in Red Lion Court, Fleet Street in 1912.  I know it's 1912 because there's a large sign in the shop window proclaiming "Blues and Greys for season 1912"!

However what I would like to know is more information regarding Carlish's American Tailors.  I have tried to find information on the internet but to date I've had no luck.  Does anyone have any ideas where I might be able to find anything out?

Regards

Stewart

I can find at http://www.historicaldirectories.org a Rosenthal, Moses, a tailor at 6 Red Lion Court, Fleet Street, in 1910
There are also some references to "Carlish Brothers", tailors/outfitters, but not at that address (but perhaps they took over Moses' business at some point?)

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/28647/pages/7081
 - an Anthony Handel Carlish is described as a tailor in 1913, trading as "Carlish's"

(may have been the man who put in this patent: http://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/biblio?CC=GB&NR=117305 )
