Hello !
I am new to the site and ask if anyone can tell me where I can find obituaries for 1928-1930. I have been trying to trace a relative through the cemeteries in the manchester area, someone on this site suggested to another member to search the newspaper obituaries of the time. I tried the Manchester Evening News but without success. Can you advise.
Thank you.

Hello Kevin
Welcome to rootschat. It may be best if you can let the members know the name of the person who died and the area where they lived. Of course, you will have to bear in mind that the death may not have occurred in that area and it may be under another registration district.
Were you successful in finding the death? If not there are online sites that may assist you in your search.
Also,a local newspaper may also print an orbituary.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for your reply to my question. The person I have been looking for is John Thomas cooper, I understand that he died in 1929, born I think 1868 and died in 1929 lived in north Manchester. I was asking about obituaries as I understand if it was in a newspaper at the time it may state where he was to be buried or cremated.
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards.

Hello Kevin
The only John Thomas COOPER shown on free bmd is in June quarter 1929,registration district being Manchester North, age recorded as 65 yrs but that is only as good as the person registering it.
Manchester North at that time covered Failsworth,Manchester and Prestwich so if he lived in any of those areas then local papers may assist.I do not know the name of any though.
Not sure whether there was another Manchester paper at the time, maybe Manchester Local Studies could assist.
Manchester online burials http://www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk/GenSearch.aspx may be worth checking.
With regards to cremations then I cannot offer any assistance.I do not think there any online but I stand to be corrected.
The new family research site www.familysearch.org has a death of a John Thomas COOPER recorded
with a burial date of 4 April 1929 at Latchford,Cheshire . I only mention this because of the closeness to the free BMD entry.Do you think he would have connections in Cheshire?
Sorry I cannot be more helpful.Possibly get another member posting with advice.
Eric :)
