Post by: Echovalley on Tuesday 11 October 11 07:35 BST (UK)
I'm looking for descendants of the above people.  Their daughter, Margaret Iddon m John William Hacking in 1887 at Freckleton.

Do you mean looking for as in wanting to find living people who are descended from this couple?
Or do you mean looking for as in wanting to research who the descendents from this couple were?
If the latter, then have you found them on later censuses to see what children they had?

I seem to have confused some people with the wording.  I really want to hear from any descendents of Thomas and Nancy as I have gaps in the information and would like to know more about the couple.  I have checked all the census etc, thanks to FindMyPast, so have the family groups in the 1800's. Thanks for your email

I have just come across a Thomas Iddon and Nancy by chance looking for a Jane Iddon.  No idea of Nancy's surname but Thomas Iddon was an Inn Keeper in Woodplumpton in the 1800's, earlier in the century I think it was the 1820's so the dates seem a bit adrift but it's worth investigating.  Have a look at Lancashire online Parish it will bring it straight up if you put birth in for Jane Iddon father Thomas Iddon.  Woodplumpton isn't far from Freckleton.  It was the wrong Jane Iddon for me but the right location, can't find a Jane for my era of research1750's but there seem to be a lot of Iddon's in Tarleton.

Apologies for the delay.  Our Thomas Iddon was born around 1825 in Freckleton and drowned 27th Feb 1877 on the "Venus", his headstone is at the Warton Church graveyard.  His wife Nancy Carter was born around 1829 at Warton, died 28th April 1915, aged 86yrs...headstone at the above graveyard.  They married 17th March 1852 at the Parish church at Warton.  I have certificates for the above dates, happy to send you copies if they fit your family.  Their children were Hugh, Ellen, Arthur Francis (Frank), Margaret, Thomas, William, Fredrick and Albert (Ned).  It was just luck that we saw their gravestones as we were travelling past and I thought the name Warton was attached to the family, we live in NZ so not often in the location.  Good luck, Allison

That's so kind of you.  I know it's a long long way down my maternal grandfathers line.  I haven't looked at it since I saw your question, it was an odd coincidence as I just stumbled across Iddon's myself nearby.  My Ancestor was a Parkinson who was an Ostler at the Inn and somewhere along the line a relative of the landlord married into the family.
