Good morning chatters
hoping someone with access to ER can help
probably Geelong area
this is what I have about June
born 1923 Victoria
father: John Patrick THOMPSON (aka Baxter or Baxter-Thompson) - he died in a bus crash on King Island in 1948
mother: Iris Alice REES - I think the parents divorced and Iris re-married Sydney HOLLISTER or HINCKLEY; buried Mt Duneed in C of E section, as Iris Alice Hollister HINCKLEY
June was engaged to Bernard MATHERSON of NSW in 1941 (found on trove - this aslo mentions the mother and step-father) but as far as I can make out no marriage took place, and June died in August this year, also buried Mt Duneed in RC section
and Esther LEY is in the same plot (died 1990)
thanks

oohh that's great Allison
so Iris and Esther were neighbours (or possibly in the same house??)
can you see June anywhere on ER?
the other weird thing is the name of Esther's husband John CW Ley
CULLEN is the married surname of John P Thompson's great aunt, which is my connection to this family - of course may be completely coincidental
but hope I can find more on him
thanks also for the re-marriage of John Thompson
-
Hello again,
Yes they may have lived together or at least in the same street, pity there are no street numbers on the ER.
The only entry for June :
1949
June BAXTER-THOMPSON { Telephonist}7 Gould St Frankston
What name was June buried under ?
Regards
Alison
-
thanks for that 1949 ER entry
she was buried as Baxter-Thompson, and there was one death notice in the Geelong Advertiser with the same name

Not sure I am doing this correctly but William Cullen Ley is a relation and Esther was his wife, they divorced many years and and Esther went to live in the Geelong Area. The other names are family names. I have not heard of June Baxter -Thompson.
-
Hi finnbaker
I guess you are looking at this from the other angle then - I was researching June Baxter-Thompson who is the great grand-daughter of Mary HILL, the sister of my gg grandmother Anne HILL (this was all to do with trying to find the parents of Anne, Mary and Julia HILL who emigrated from County Clare to Tasmania in the 1850's)
I found that June was buried in the same plot as Esther
then it was odd but probably coincidental that Esther's (ex) husband had the middle name CULLEN, as Anne HILL married Charles CULLEN, an ex-convict from Nottingham UK
I suspect that June and Esther became friends when they were living near Geelong??
do you happen to know where the Cullen in William LEY's name originated?
cheers :)
Lou

Dear Lou, I believe the Cullen was the maiden name of William Ley senior's mother. There are three William Leys' in our family. The first who died in 1896? printer. His son, and his grandson who was at one time married to Esther.
-
hi Sue
would you happen to have anything on
William Henry LEY, died?1896, father of William Johnson LEY??
thanks
Lou
-
Dear Lou, William Henry Ley is my biological GGrandfather, Born 1855 Hotham Victoria, Died Richmond Victoria 1890. Wife Elizabeth Morton Johnston Born Hotham. Married 1879. Henry Gould Ley is listed as his father and Amelia Waring as his mother. I had not gone any further into the Ley family. Anything you find out would be of interest to me. William Henry died from the results of lung problems as he was a printer. I think he was associated with the Richmond Guardian. His wife remarried some years later to George Whitehurst, who carried on the busines.

Dear Lou, Many thanks for the information some of which I did not know, have been to the library today and found the first William Henry born 1855, father Henry Gould, mother Amelia Waring, other children Arthur Augustus born 1859, and Amelia Jane 1859. Then there are the ones I know about. Found death of Henry Gould 1887, West Melbourne, father Jno, mother Nancy Britten. Could not find a marriage for William Henry to Amelia Waring, so will have to look to see if I can find when they arrived here .But once again thank you it has certainly been an experience to find something I knew nothing about.
Regards Finnbaker.

Dear Lou,Many many thanks, would not have found this for a long time. Henry Gould Ley's death in 1887 in West Melbourne shows John as his father and Nance Britten as his mother. Now I know they appear to have come from England and I will search the passanger arrivals. Many thanks. Jan (Finnbaker)

Dear Lou, You might be able to help, I have tried all the shipping records for Henry Gould and Amelia, but have not had any luck with finding when they came to Australia. Could you please suggest where I might look.
Thanks (Jan) Finnbaker.
