I am currently trying to find old street maps of Tollcross in Glasgow/Lanarkshire. My husband's grandfather was recorded as living at 23 Dandy Row, Tollcross, Old Monkland when he married on 17th July 1896.
I am struggling due to the boundries between Glasgow and the area which was previously classed as Old Monklands / Lanarkshire. This was the link I used from a previous Rootschat posting but I have not had much luck. http://maps.nls.uk/os/2nd_ed_list.html
I know he was a miner and am assuming that he lived in mining houses. Can anyone help me?

Hi Carrie
Have you tried here.....? http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html
Search for Old Monkland, then choose the map/date you want from those on the right hand side.

The National Library of Scotland website also gives you access to a wide range of old maps.

Thanks for the link Hibee but still not having any luck. The maps for Old Monkland see to be miles away from Tollcross and don't allow you to zoom out any further than the actual map cover. It doesn't seem to matter which of the the 3 maps I use. I also typed in Tollcross but it didn't recognise the name. I know that the street existed as I have a copy of the marriage certificate and the street is also listed in the attached link.

Thanks for trying anyway.

Carrie, not getting anywhere on mapping as yet but thought you might enjoy reading these posts here www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4587 They are recollections of the general area surrounding Dandy Row.

Hi
I've found Mud Row on the 6 ins OS map. From the ref that Monica has put up this was one of the Rows.
Can't get a link to work. Basically, select zoomable map, Lanark and Glasgow. Zoom in to Shettleston. Go South and locate the Clyde Iron works. The Rows are to the ENE of the works. Just South of Fullarton House.

Added - all the other series that I've looked at just have Mud Row

Only Mud Row is recorded on the map

Hi Sancti
Comparing your map with the 6 ins OS that I used, I'd say that the other Rows are the ones marked as lines/streets opposite Mud Rows on the OS map (not showing on the Bartholomew map). I recall that there was mention of them being opposite to Mud Row on the link that Monica put up.
