Hi there,
I am researching my great great grandmother's family history and I have hit a block. I know that she was married in the Parish of Forgandenny, Perthshire in 1861 to David Glennie, and that she and her new family migrated to Australia in 1861. I have her marriage records which show her parents as being Peter McIntyre and Margaret Winton. Peter is described as being a farm servant of Forgandenny. The 1861 census record shows she was a servant in the McGregor Household in Fortingall "Tomchovan"? Can anyone help me go further that this?
Regards, Adebec

Hi Adebec
Some questions :)
Of the 2 sets of parents on the marriage certificate - were any of the 4 noted as deceased?
Was her mother described as" Margaret McINTYRE ms WINTON" ?
Who were the witness'?
Was there a specific address for Isabella on her marriage cert?
Cheers

Tomchovan is not a name that we can identify easily. However, if you go back to the census and provide the names of the dwellings before and after Tomchovan, we will see what we can do.
Alternatively if you cannot provide these names, can you give the Enumeration Number and page number of the census entry?
Our guess at present is that this is Drumachewan

Hi Throth and Ambly,
Thank you both for promptly replying to my call for help! To your questions -
1) regarding the census - It is on Page 8 and the number is 35. the property before this seems to be called Luban (?) a family called Campbell live there.
2) on the marriage certificate, none of the parents are described as deceased. Her mother is described as Margaret McIntyre MS Winton. The address listed is Forgandenny. The witnesses names can't be read on the certificate but I have attached it for your reference.
Thank you both very much in advance.

From the 1861 Census you mention,
the servant Isabella McINTYRE is 19, b Clifton, Perthshire
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/PER/Killin/Gaz1868.html
"CLIFTON, a village in the parish of Killin, in the county of Perth, Scotland."
Where did the "Blairgowrie" information come from?

HI there,
I wanted to thank both Thoth and Ambly for all of their assistance with interpreting information concerning my great great grandmother Isabella McIntyre (married to David Glennie in 1861 in Forgandenny), however not all of the issues have been cleared up! :(
The fact that on the marriage certificate my 3x great grandmother is described as being Margaret McIntyre MS Winton would suggest that they were married, but I can find no records to indicate that they were married.
I have found a Margaret Winton being born in Forgandenny in 1808. I also found a census record for a Margaret Winton in 1841, she was working as a farm servant in the household of a Peter Lumsden M? who was a farmer at Bankhead (?). Any suggestions for the surname?
Is it possible that this woman is the Margaret Winton on Isabella's marriage certificate? Is it likely that Isabella was illegitimate and that the way she recorded her parents as married is only for respectability purposes???
Also, how can the identities of the witnesses to the McIntyre/ Glennie marriage help?
Any ideas would be wonderful as I am frustrated as to where to go on this one (which means a lot to me!) ???
Regards, Adebec
PS. Also, the Blairgowrie reference is to the fact that Isabella always stated that she was from Blairgowrie!
