My great uncle Frederick Rooney was CPl in the 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He died (wounds) 16 Aug 1915, Gallipoli. (Service No. I have ). Record is on CWGC
I do know that Findmypast have records of him. But I need to find out which records would give me as
much info before I purchase i.e his mothers name.

There are no Service records for him.
As far as I can see Findmypast only have his entry in Ireland's Memorial Records of the Great War' and 'Soldiers Died in the Great War' both only show that he was born in Dublin and the information you already have.
If you wish to order his death certificate here are the references, but it won't tell you very much.

Do you know what year he was born?

Hi Jebber
Thank you for your reply . I was hoping I could get more info on his military record. I have found two entries on family search for a Frederick Rooney born 1894 , the one for Dublin North could be him as his family were all born Dublin North. I have been trying to get a marriage between his father John and Esther Rooney but have found no match yet, as I think from research into family first names some were christened different first names if you know what I mean i.e. John Edward, Mary Teresa .

Many thanks again

Hi gensearcher,
I have had little need of Irish records, but wonder if you have tried here, it came up trumps for me.

Hi GenSearcher
Did you find out any more about this Frederick Rooney?
I am guessing you are referring to a son of John Rooney and not the Frederick Rooney(born 27/08/1875) who was a brother of John Rooney's?

Hi jervis42
