Title: HARVEY family married at Southwark, London
Post by: conseiller on Friday 07 October 11 11:21 BST (UK)
Hi, I am trying to find out information about the following marriage and subsequent family
I believe that - William Henry Harvey married - Hannah Soan Sands at Southwark, London in 1869
and that heir first child  - Hannah Alice Soan Harvey was born at Southwark, London in 1869.
I do about know the parents and siblings of Hannah. BUT I do not know what happened to her after she married -if indeed this is marriage is correct and worse I  sadly know nothing more about  Hannah's Husband than his reputed name and I know nothing of  her children !
Please can anyone help me - I seem to have a brick wall.  any help would be appreciated . Thanks - Luc.

The "Hannah Alice S" Harvey b. Southwark in 1869 (and died 1887) may be Hannah Alice Seymour Harvey  (father John) - unless you have the certificate to confirm?

I see that Hannah Soan Sands was b. Sevenoaks (or at least christened there in 1849).

1871 census: RG 10/807 82/21 has a possible:
William H Harvey, 22, grainer, b. Greenwich
Hannah, wife, 21, b. Sevenoaks
William H, son, 1, b. Richmond  (possible on freebmd: William Henry M Harvey?)

Can't find them later - perhaps they emigrated.

Hi Jorose,

Thats a great help - thank you,
I was not sure about  information about "Hannah Alice S Harvey"
Your information about the Harvey family in the 1871 census  sounds fine.
Were they living at Richmond where their son was born ?  Which Richmond is it ?as I note that there are two one in Yorkshire and one in Surrey ? Does their adress give any further clues?

Thank you again for your help - regards - Luc.

Hi,

The marriage in 1869 has William down as a plumber, father Moses Harvey also a plumber.

Hannah's father is Thomas Soan Sands also a plumber.

Sorry, this was Richmond, Surrey.

Their address was 10 Argile Cottages, Richmond, Surrey. They shared this with another family - James and Eliza Morris - but I don't think they were any relations (same address but marked as different households).

The Moses Harvey link is interesting, because there is a William Harvey b. Greenwich aged 9 in 1861 with a father Moses - "Grainer and Painter" (which fits with father and son having the same occupation but not with "plumber" on the certificate?).  His father seems to have remarried shortly before the census to an Irish woman, Joanna Shea.

They headed to New York in 1869 (castlegarden.org) with son Henry and are there in 1880
There is also in Connecticut in the 1880 a William Harvey, painter, with wife "Hanah" and children William and Thomas (who all arrived in 1873 on the City of Antwerp)

Hi Jorose.

This is amazing  -thank you so much I shall follow all this up!

Just a few questions relating the 1861 census that you mentioned - did it give Moses's age and place of birth and were there any other children and finally what address were they living at in 1861.

I have looked for William (Moses 's son) Birth certificate.  but have had no luck yet.

I shall now try and find Moses's first marriage

Thank you again for your help - it is so much appreciated - regards - Luc.

1861 census:
RG9/409 110/36 (continuing onto 111/37)
22 Melbourne Place, Plumstead
Moses Harvey, 32 ,grainer and printer, b. Somerset Bath
Joana, 25, wife, b. Ireland
Henry, 3, son, b. Hampshire Portsmouth
William, 9, son, b. Greenwich

freebmd shows two possible marriages, 1849 and 1860, for Moses in Lewisham, and a birth for William Henry in Greenwich in 1852 (suggesting he made himself a little older in the 1871 census, maybe because his wife was slightly older than him). I'm not sure Moses's first wife (William's mother) was.

Hi Jennifer,
This great and it seems to fit perfectly - many many  thanks.
So now if i can find out if moses and his first wife Isabella  had more children than just William and Isabella before he remarried in 1860.
Thanks to Jorose's kind suggestion I believe his first wife was Isabella Butcher and that he married her in 1849.
When Moses went to America in 1869 it seems he also took a son Ashton Harvey aged 17.
and in the Ameican 1880 Census William Henry has his 22 yr old sister living with him.
So it look s as if Moses and Isabella  certainly had more children.
Thanks again Jennifer and Jorose your help has been a huge help and is very much appreciated - kind regards - Luc.
