Bit of a long shot here, but I live in hope!!
I'm trying to find my 4 x Great-grandparents family..... my 4 x great-gran Ann was born in Caernarfon...sorry I don't know where exactly.
She was born c1809/1810. She married John Jones (b Flint c1820). He was a shop keeper (small wares/ china/ glass etc). Their children John,Edward & William were born in Caernarfon. Their son Thomas ( my 3 x greatgrandfather) was born in Holyhead. He married Jane Burnell (born Holyhead) in Llanddeiniolen parish church in June 1870.
On the 1851 census the family were living in Swift Square, Holyhead.
I have no record for 1861. By 1871 John has remarried.
It's Ann's family I'm looking for at the moment, and any information about their time in Caernarfon.
Any information would be appreciated...many thanks :)

Hello Blodynbach,
Do you know when and where John Jones and Ann married? The marriage certificate would give you Ann's maiden name, address, name of father and his occupation but you would need to identify the correct marriage in order to obtain this.
The other way would be to obtain a birth certificate for one of the children. This would also give you Ann's maiden name.
It is possible some or all of these events, marriage and baptisms, would be on Freereg. The coverage for Caernarfon is quite good. The problem will be identifying the correct ones with the surname being so common. Sometimes, the mother's maiden name is shown in baptisms of children. Let me have details of years of marriage and birth and I will see if I can find them. You can of course try for yourself if you prefer.

Do you know anything about the family of John Jones, and was he born in Fliint itself?
Regards
William Russell Jones.

I may as well answer my own query in that the John Jones in the 1851 Census is given as born in Holywell Flintshire in c 1820.
Regards
William Russell Jones.

Many thanks for the advice!
Will try getting a birth certificate for Thomas.
On his mrriage cert. his address was given as Cefnwaun - is this an area or the name of a house. I can't seem to find it. His occupation was 'quarryman'. Any info or pointers gratefully received :)

Cefn y Waen is just to the east of Deiniolen. There was a Presbyterian chapel called Cefn y Waen , now closed. I presume the house would be in that area.
The grid ref for the chapel is SH 586630 .
Its slightly strange that he married in Llanddeiniolen church , which is a good three miles away from Cefn y Waen, when Llanddinorwig church ( established around 1857) is about 100 yards away .

Diolch Huwcyn. I wonder if Ann was from this area......I shall investigate!
Would Caernarfon archives have details of shops/ businesses for the area for the mid 1800's? As the children were born in Caernarfon (except Thomas) I'm thinking Ann & John had a shop there. I only wish his name wasn't John Jones! He had a shop in Holyhead, and I think he was called Jack - possibly even had the nick name of 'Curly Jack' due to his white curly hair & beard! I digress...sorry :D
