I have just discovered why lots of my Ancestors had the name Donkin Wright all from Campsall,Yorkshire, My Great Grandfather X4 George Wright 1776/1840 had his children with Elizabeth Donkin and I assume never married as I can`t find any evidence of this and here is where I need some help as I can`t find where and when she was born, I do hope someone can help with this problem thank you so much.
Regards Tom Wright

1814 Jan 18th Campsall Parish Records
George illegitimate son of George Wright Farmer and Elizabeth Donkin of Norton
Each child she had to George from 1802 onwards states she is from Norton and the children are illegitimate
Norton is next to Campsall

Hi Oly
I have searched in all 3 villages Campsal/Norton/Askern and even went over to Fishlake where Thomas Wright 1684 was born to see if there were any Donkin`s there but no luck as the years go by the name Donkin has been recorded as Dunkin/Duncan . Its looking like Elizabeth Donkin around 1776 ish and her parents are going to be lost in the mist of time.
Thanks Regards Tom

Hello you two,
An interesting joint search Lee, nice to get results and Tom is a bit further down the road.
The Donkin family are in the Harewood area 1600 on.
An Elizabeth Donkin had a child out of wedlock 15th Nov 1620 at Otley, it runs in the family Tom.

I originate from the North East, and the name Donkin can be found in the Northumberland records. There has been a query in the Northumberland section, here on Rootschat in the last year, about the name Donkin. You may find something to assist if you also visit the Northumberland section.

Hi Oly and Lee,
Thanks to you both for the help in finding Elizabeth Donkin now I will hopefully go further back in time with her, I could never understand why the name Donkin/Dunkin Wright was given to all my Ancestor ( now I know) from around 1800 to my great granddad Thomas Dunkin Wright 1832/1903 Campsall then for some reason he give up the middle name. Will have to go to Campasll at some point in the summer time to have a look for my self it looks very much like Starbotton and Kettlewell where mum was born.
Thank you so much Regards Tom .

hello
i have relatives (distant) brought up thinking their family name was craven from 1871 onwards who are actually holroyds according to birth certificates.
all due to my 4x grandmother having 4 illigitimate children.
going through census they changed their minds whenever they fancied.
will have a go on following donkin line back now.
regards lee
