Hi Gap
I suspect these will be at the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) just off Farringdon Road, BUT if you want to find out about him and his family have you thought about 1911 which is online at paying sites

What do you want to know about him?

Thanks Louisa Maud,  Its a long story, I have been looking for my grandfather for 15 odd years now, in fact TENNANT is the head of house in the 1911 census, where my grandmother was a boarder, and I was hoping to find some info on my grandfather.  Arthur Paget  b.? m.? d. ?

My fathers birth cert. b. 1905 does not give a father only his mother Elizabeth HOUSE, (which is her maiden name) but in the 1911 she calls herself Elizabeth Paget  married for 10 years, no children. Must mention here that my father was living with his cousins in the 1911 census in Surrey, and his name is Paget!! We did know before searching that Elizabeth was married to Commins in 1919.
I have the marriage cert. which states that she is a widow and her name is Elizabeth Paget.

I could go on further as we have had snippets told to us by Aunts.    So have been searching for an Arthur Paget and a marriage cert. but no luck.  My father was sent to Cranleigh School in Surrey in 1919 and after enquiries they told us that the address was 22 Albert Street Regents Park, and his fathers name was Arthur Paget.

I guess you wish you hadn't asked, by the way her place of birth is correct on the census but age is wrong.

So trying to find something on Electoral Rolls!!

Hi Gap

A lot of men didn't get the vote until after WW1 in 1918. There were certian criteria to get the vote before then

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/pathways/citizenship/struggle_democracy/getting_vote.htm

The only details contained in the electoral registers is the name and address of the eligible voters.

What about 1901

I can't find a marriage between House and Paget or a baptism for an Arthur ? Paget born 1905

Hi Louisa Maud,

I haven't found my grandparents in 1901.

No have never found a marriage for Arthur Paget and Elizabeth House.

My fathers name was Leonard William Paget b. 1905 Wandsworth. As I could not find a birth for Leonard William Paget -- I searched for his mothers name HOUSE and found a birth but no father on certificate.  So I thought they must have married after he was born.

Perhaps she never married Mr Paget, he might well have been Leonards father and perhaps she used that name although Leonard was registered under the surname House, odd, stange als ot at on 1911 you say ot states no children

Yes very strange, I guess people were able to call themselves what they liked in those days. When she married in 1919 she didn't need to supply any evidence of previous marriage or death to show she was a widow then.

I shall keep chipping away and perhaps one day it will all come clear.

Thanks for your input.

If on her marriage cert there is her father's name how about searching him on 1901, she might well be living with HIMor nearby and what about the witnesses

I do have the 1891 census with her and she isn't with her father in the 1901. I know the witnesses on m.cert and I wish I had asked before they died.

Well I ust admit the times I  have thought "I wished I had asked " I started this geonalogy lark by accident  just before my mother died but it was just not to be, I know my father could have answered questions that remain unanswered, BUT we do have fun in the chase as it were.

Elizabeth wasn't just Elizabeth, was she?, on her cert I think she has Elizabeth H B , what are these initials for, there might be a clue there, also what was her date of birth and birth place

Ahh yes we all seem to suffer in the same way - didn't ask questions.  I think I have managed quite well I have a pretty big tree, except for this line.

Elizabeth's middle names were Helen Bethia and she was known as Bess.  I have of course tried all combinations when searching.  How do you think this can help?

Well, I shall keep trying.

Thanks again.
