Title: Completed - UK Incoming Passenger lists
Post by: davidrigg3 on Thursday 29 September 11 16:09 BST (UK)
Could someone possibly check the UK incoming passenger lists for William Thomas (Thomas Wiliam) Hand and his wife Constance Edith Hand please. I'm pretty sure they are listed but I don't have a current subscription to be able to see the info.

Many thanks, B

Do you have an idea of a date?
Or from where they were travelling?
Their ages and occupations might also be helpful.

Sorry don't have any idea of date or where they were coming from, this has just popped up as one of those occasionally annoying but intriguing hints on a genealogy site, but I don't have the right subscription to be able to view the records.

I know they were both born 1883, married in 1909, at which time his occupation was given as Clerk in Holy Orders.

Not sure if that will help any?

The Times, Friday, Jan 25, 1957; pg. 10; Issue 53748
   Obituary  Canon W. T. Hand
Canon William Thomas Hand rector of Tatterford and Tattersett, Norfolk, for over 30 years, died at Tatterford on Wenesday. Through his enthusiasm and coaching many young men were able to enter the ministry of the Church of England who might otherwise have been unsuccessful. Three of his sons, one of whom is now Bishop Coadjutor of New Guinea, took holy orders.

Wow that was fast.

Thank you sooo much for taking the time Stan.

They seem to be turning into quite an interesting family.

Best regards, B.

It seems William and Constance both went out to Sydney, Australia in the August of 1912, so if William was Rector at Tatterford for over 30 years they must have been back in the UK by the 1920s.

I'm pretty sure Constance died in 1944, there is a death registration which fits in the Leeds area where her family were from.

William then goes back to Aus in the Jan of 1950 with William Eustace Hand, 33, Clergyman.

After a bit more digging I have discovered that the son mentioned in the Obit was one David Hand (actually Geoffrey David) who became the first Anglican Archbishop of Papua New Guinea. Quite a character by all accounts.

So, based on info in a biography for him, could someone have a look for the family coming into the UK from Brisbane, Australia in approx. 1922. I would hope to see parents William Thomas & Constance Edith, with at least 3 children Peter, Eustace and David. The boys are actually Peter Jowett, William Eustace and Geoffrey David but the latter two certainly appear to have used their middle names.

Thanks in advance, regards, B

Hi Koromo,

Thank you very much for looking that up for me, a bit earlier than I had expected, I guess maybe I mis-calculated something somewhere, or perhaps the biography I was working from was slightly wong.

Anyway, thanks to RootsChat and the ever generous people here I have what I was after.

Thanks Koromo, I really appreciate your time and effort.
