Title: Maheriarviel ??
Post by: Anne Wilson on Thursday 29 September 11 15:29 BST (UK)
I've found the birth/baptism of an ancestor on IFH where the address is given as Maheriarviel, Armagh. Can't find anything that matches this & so was wondering if it could mean Magherarville, Armagh?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Annie

Hi,
Possibly Magherarville, to the southwest of Armagh. This seems most likely.

Regards

Hi Annie,
I think you are right. My brother lives at Maherarville, Milford Armagh. Its only a few miles out of Armagh city and the locals pronounce it as - Ma her eee are vill! I can check out local graveyards if it helps :) Noreen

Thanks to you both for taking the time to ponder this one with me........it looks like I might be on the right track.
Thanks especially to you Noreen for your kind offer.
The family I'm tracking are John LYNCH & Margaret nee DONNELLY who I believe may be my GGGgrandparents. They were both deceased by 1867 according to the Scottish death cert. of one of their sons, Peter.
According to Scottish census records Peter was born abt 1810 & his brother Hugh (my GGgrandfather) abt 1812, both in Armagh.
Have found the birth of Hugh on IFH in 1814 with the above mentioned parents but no further details & then a birth for Peter in 1807 with a slight variation in the mother's maiden surname.."McDonnell" ..so not absolutely sure this is the correct birth. (His DC states his mother's MS as "DONELY" and his father's occupation as farmer)
If you are able to find any other info relating to this couple Noreen, I would be eternally grateful.
Cheers
Annie
