Please go easy on me - this is my first post!
I am researching the men commemorated on Dudley's Clock Tower War Memorial. I've done pretty well, but there's a hard core of 50 or so chaps who defy identification.
One of the names inscribed on the Memorial is BARKHAM - just that; no initials. None of the Barkhams I can find on the CWGC website have a Dudley connection (where n.o.k. details are shown).
Does anyone have a clue as to who this Barkham might be?

Hi John,
Are you still researching the name of Barkham in the Dudley area?
I am a Barkham myself and do have a connection to Worcestershire.
My Grand Mother Violet Yapp was born in Worcester and married (or so we thought! long story) my Granddad Frederick Barkham but he was from Suffolk.
Would be interesting to see if there was any other Barkhams from around that area?
Is the War Memorial Clock Tower for WW1, WW2 or both?
Do you have a picture of it? would love to see what it looks like.
sorry I cant offer any more info for you at the moment
just thought I see if you had learnt any more?
cheers
Deano

Yes, I'm still looking!
Here's what a friend produced for me:
I searched for Barkham's in Dudley and had one good hit. A Trevor
Onions, born 1941, in Dudley, Mothers maiden name Barkham. There were
no more entries for new born Onion's with the mothers maiden name
being Barkham.Thinking there may be a spelling error, i discovered a year or two
later another newborn Onion, had a mother who's maiden name was Barklam.
A check for Barklam shows a family, in Handsworth, Yorkshire, of John
and Annie Barklam, both born in Dudley! Their children were born in,
Yorkshire. One child, a George A. Barklam, born 1891, died in the third quarter of 1915, in the district of Sheffield!.
George A. Barklam has no CWGC entry. I've searched for other possibilities, but with no results. The family were in Yorkshire in 1883, 30 years before the war. Perhaps a relative in the 1920's recalled a death in their family but could not recall the name, only
the incorrect surname.
So the hunt goes on...
