Does anyone have any connections with Isaac who was a coxswain on rescue boats?. Relatives connected to him are John Vondy a marine fireman of Jurdy I believe. Both related to me on my father's side.
Many thanks
Sue Healy

Hi
The Isle of Man post office commemorated 175 years of the RNLI in 1999, founded by Sir William Hillary 1771-1847. On the front page they have mistakenly used a picture of 'veteran Douglas lifeboat coxswain, Isaac Vondy, who accompanied Sir William Hillary on so many of his missions of mercy.' Details can be found in the book by Robert Kelly, 'For those in Peril'. I have found a record of John Vondy who was a marine fireman in the IOM, born circa 1865. He may have had a son, John Vondy born about 1883 and a daughter, Elizabeth M Agnes.

So if Hillary died in 1847 - you are looking for an Isaac Vondy born well before that date
Have the Post Office acknowledged the error re: photo

As far as I know the post office haven't acknowleged the error, but I don't live in the IOM. Thanks for the useful website.

The IGI has 2 births for an Isaac Vondy in the IOM - both submitted entries
Born about 1813 Douglas - married Catherine Duggan about 1844
Christening 15.12.1819 St Matt Douglas - parents Thomas and Ellenor nee Cowley.
