Hello All
My Great Grandmother - Kathleen Tegg (nee Bailey) Born 1887 - D1974 is a bit of mystery with her parents I think i found a few bits about her Kathleen and ordered her Marriage to Edward James Tegg, I found her parents were George Bailey and I think Emma Bailey, I would love to know more about them i.e marriage , according to what i found George may have fathered Kathleen when he was 14 years old !! and that Emma was 8 years older than George.
Would be greatful for any help
Regards
Wendy

Possible, but unlikely that George fathered her age 14! Or if he did, then she would have been illegitimate and unlikely that records would be around showing George was the father!
I see the marriage (KAthleen Bailey / Tegg) was in 1912, annoying as we cant get her on a census after her marriage to ascertain a year and place of birth.
HAve you found her in 1911 not long before her marriage?
Looking at the marriage cert - I gather it says father was George - what was his occupation?
DOes it give an exact age for Kathleen?
What address does she marry from?
names of witnesses?
-
Presumably you are looking at this 1901 entry:
Rg13 1122 40 1
Boxford
George 28 shepherd bn Wilts ALdbourne
Emma 36 bn Berks Crompton
Kate 14 bn W. Ilsey
Edith 12 bn W Ilsey
(ages are clear)
was George a shepherd on her marriage cert? was she still living in Boxford? Otherwise, is there any evidence this is the right person, or is it just a possibility?

Hello I think i have the 1911 at home but to be honest i struggled to find Kathleen /George and Emma
i have attached Marriage Certificate
Thank you
Wendy

I would imagine the children are actually Emma's from a previous marriage/relationship
George is single, with parents in Albourne Wilts in 1891
RG12 973 28 9
cant see Emma, Edith and Kate as yet to find what name they are under.

What places of birth do Edith and Kate/Kathleen give on 1911? And Emma too for that matter!

Suspect this is the marriage:
Sep 1899 Wantage 2c Page 661 - George BAILEY, Emma FERRIS

Marrige:
Sept Q 1899
Wantage 2c 661
George Bailey
Emma Ferris
If you look at the above marriage cert one of the witnesses was named Ferris
Emma in 1881:

Emma, Kate and Edith are on the 1891 census indexed as FARIES
Harry
Edit:
Both girls are shown with place of birth; West Ilsley, there may be a chance that the father has been named on the baptism record.

I'd just found that too
RG12 983 125 5
Emma is single.
(shout if you need the full transcription, if you do not have access)

Finally found the family in the 1911 census, but Kate is not living with her parents (still cannot find her) and Amos FERRIS is living with them. Looks as though they were living in Harpsden for a while and then Wokingham, given the pob for the 3 additional children.
Will look for Kate again in 1911 !!

Slightly off topic:
From the Harpsden PR baptisms transcript courtesy of OFHS:
15 Jul 1906 - Gertrude Winifred Rose BAILEY, d of George and Emma - Shepherd
I assume the daughter known as Rose in the 1911 census.
No other Bailey baptisms.

Cannot find Kate in the 1911 census. The best fit being a Kate b 1885 Cook Domsetic (which fits with Mar Cert) but born Henley.
Cannot find birth references for either Kate (Kathleen) or Edith either ???

Blimey i never gave it a thought that George would not be Kathleen's father, you just assume that on mar cert for her that her father said George , I do know that Kathleen worked in Henley as a domestic at some stage that is how she met Edward James Tegg ( picture attached of them both)
thank you everyone will seeve through the replies

Here is the 1891 you asked for
But it wont tell you Kate's dad. She appears to have been illegitimate. As I said, Emma was single.
Unlikely you will ever find her fahter, unless he is named on either the birth cert (babyboy has given you the ref) or a christening record. More likely though it is a secret that Emma took to her grave, or only shared by word of mouth.
