Title: Possible criminal
Post by: higgles on Tuesday 20 September 11 22:07 BST (UK)
How would I go about confirming a family story about a member of the family being put in jail for embezzlement in Manchester sometime between 1912 and 1923?

Hi

I would have thought local newspapers. Who are you talking about?

Best place to start would be the library closest to where the alleged crime took place.  They would possibly hold copies of the newspapers mentioned by Rosie99.

Alternatively, contact the local police station to where the offence took place. So long as the 'suspect' is deceased you can ask for a freedom of information request be made.

You may want to write a letter as a fore note for the FOI request to explain why you want this info and it may help you get the info you want!

Good luck
