hi again...I am new to this and admit to being a bit confused when your message said,'bookmarking'....not sure what this means.

Hi Tootsieboots,
Bookmarking enables you come back and find something later on. If you bookmark next time you come on line to this particular forum, you usually get back to where you left your mark even if there are another 20 pages.
I hope this explains the process to you. The same applies if like me , you leave a message.

Welcome to Rootschat, Tootsieboots. This isn't a forum for tracing details of living people but hopefully someone will be able to post some information on the orphanage or suggest sources where you can search next so I'm going to move this thread to the appropriate Scottish board for local knowledge.
Bookmarking isn't really encouraged as it tends to clutter up a thread with replies that aren't helping the original query. There are several ways to make note of a particular thread without posting on the topic such as using the 'send to a friend' button on the topic (send the notification to your own email address and there's even an option to 'add a comment' so you'll remember why it was of interest) or click 'bookmarks' on your computer's toolbar.

Try contacting this unit - they may be able to help.

thankyou all very much for your help.... :) and I will try the one you suggested chirp.

Whoops - I'm sorry I caused confusion!
Anyway, I bookmarked because this address rang bells and I wanted to go onto Google streetview when I got home.
I can't help with any records of the orphanage, I'm afraid, but I did spend many happy hours in either no.20 Roseangle or its neighbour in the early 1980s, when it was a large and very run down multi-occupancy house full of students!
Looking at Streetview, no.20 seems to have been replaced by newbuilds and I'm not sure which was my old haunt. Sorry again, tootsie, for the confusion and my selfishly using your thread to drag up my memories! Good luck in your search :)

Yes the area is very much a part of the student scene, with the University main buildings a stone's throw away and the art college immediately across from Roseangle on the Perth Road - an area I know rather well. Sorry, I'm now contributing to the hijacking of this thread too!
Regarding the original query: the City Council may hold some documents relating to the orphanage but I think the people at the site I posted would be best placed to offer advice.

Hi It maybe worthwhile to contact the Catholic diocese' office's at Law side Convent as they maybe able to put you on the right track or the scottishcatholicarchives.org.uk

Hi,
I have very vague memories of the place but my older brother informs me it was called St Vincents Childrens Refuge and was at 26 Roseangle.
Perhaps St Vincents RC Church in Dundee may have some knowledge of it?

Hi
That was the right name but i still think the diosese office at Lawside would be your best bet. Hope you are successful.

Hi there
I was wondering if you managed to find any information on this. I also resided here early 1970. I can't find any information on this anywhere.
