Hoping someone can help with this brick wall?
I'm trying to find a John McKenzie who married a McGregor, probably from Lochcarron (1800 to 1850). On McGregor death certificates I have from Scotland's People, John McKenzie is the informant, listed as brother in law in 1864 and relative in 1871. I have eliminated several couples by looking at which Johns are alive in 1871 census and by getting death certificates of the wives to find her parents names.
The McGregor I'm looking for has a father Duncan and is possibly called Ann, Isabel or Catherine/Kate (not Mary or Margaret).
Any help greatly appreciated.

Christy McGregor married John McKenzie, 5th February 1825 at Loch-Carron.

Hi Malky,
Thank you very much for your reply. I had looked at this couple and the death of Christy says her parents were Duncan McGregor and Margaret McGregor, which unfortunately is the wrong mother for my unknown. It looks like this John McKenzie married more than once as the informant on the death was D(onald??) McKenzie, step son. I also wondered how likely John McKenzie would be alive in 1871 as his birth date is 1791 according to the 1841 census , and 1787 from 1851. I'll do some more digging.
Thanks again
Ann

Who was it that died when John McKenzie was the informant?
-
Hi Sancti,
John was the informant on the deaths of Roderick McGregor and Alexander McGregor in 1864 (listed as brother-in-law) and their brother Donald in 1871(listed as relative).
Their mother was Isabella McRae.
cheers, Ann

Have you checked this death
1878 MACKENZIE ISABELLA other name MCGREGOR Female aged 91 at LOCHCARRON /ROSS AND CROMARTY
What was John's address as informant on the certificates you have?
-
I had checked this one-She was married to Kenneth McKenzie, with mother Eliza McRae. Informant was a nephew who couldn't sign, so probably couldn't read to check the details
No address for John McKenzie was given on any of the death certificates.
I think there must be a record somewhere with wrong info on it. I found one the other day where the wife was definitely wrong, as checked on all the census. Every census had the wife as Catharine but the death record had the wife as Elizabeth, the name exactly the same as the mother. Also on the same page was a name crossed out and written on the record below indicating the records were probably filled in sometime after the events and the Registrar got it mixed up.
I'll check the census for Kenneth & Isabella as I just noticed the two certificates on the page both have mother Eliza, and that seems unusual. I'll do a bit more digging on this one as she died at Auchintee, which is where I think another unmarried McGregor sister was living in 1881.
I really appreciate your help, as two minds are better than one, and I've been going around in circles.
Will let you know how I get on. Ann

Yes this is my family. I checked the Isabella entry and Kenneth was her husband, and he was dead before 1864. So back to the drawing board.
