Looking for a Lord family in or around Olney / Weston Underwood in 1841 / 1851
IGI shows a Joseph Lord & Wife Sarah Hooton both born about 1770 (not sure where, suspect Leicestershire for Joseph & Buckinghamshire for Sarah) They appear to have had 8 children:
1. JOHN LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 22 NOV 1795 Olney, Buckingham, England
2. LEONARD LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 03 SEP 1797 Olney, Buckingham, England
3. WILLIAM LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 30 NOV 1802 Olney, Buckingham, England
4. JAMES LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 02 APR 1804 Olney, Buckingham, England
5. SARAH LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 18 JAN 1807 Olney, Buckingham, England
6. MARY ANNE LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 03 APR 1809 Olney, Buckingham, England
7. SARAH LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 24 APR 1810 Olney, Buckingham, England
8. GEORGE LORD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 16 APR 1811 Olney, Buckingham, England
I have found James & William Lord in 1861 (RG9/874/69/14 & RG9/874/70/15) at Weston Underwood, both born in nearby Olney. William was only visiting as his wife (from Sharnford, Leicestershire) and children all show in Leicester on the 1861 census. Particularly interested in William as he is my GGG Grandfather.
Any help from 1841 / 1851 would be gratefully received

Don't go away!
I have a source but need to track down contact details for you....Olney Historical Society have just written up an article about the Lords, I will find out if it has been published...what is your connection? Reason for asking is that I am having the descendant of leonard lord arriving on my doorstep in december from olney- he should have the details I have already supplied to him. In case you didn't know the Lords were inn keepers and mentioned in Elizabeth Knight's book "The Old Inns of Olney"- their pubs and malthouses still stand (albeit mainly now converted) in Olney.
Will try to find more info for you
Robyn from melbourne (recently Olney)

Hi Robyn,
Thanks v. much for your info. I would love to find out a bit more, you can email me at tom.lord@glenold.co.uk if you like. My GG Grandfather was William Lord, a cordwainer originally from Olney (b1802) who settled in Leicester. His father was Joseph Lord (also a cordwainer). William had an older brother Leonard and also an uncle Leonard. Please keep in touch, haven't managed to find out many details regarding Olney.
Thanks for your help
Tom Lord (neither an Inn Keeper or a Cordwainer!!)

Hi Bean,
Thanks very much for your info. Have most of the 1851 stuff now the census is on ancestry.com
The thing I'm after most now is a will for Joseph Lord, buried 25th October 1846, aged 72 in Saint Laurence, Weston Underwood.
Thanks once again for your help
Tom
