Title: Marcella McCoy, Blessington
Post by: johnsgirl on Friday 16 September 11 16:02 BST (UK)
Trying to find place of birth and mother's name of Marcella McCoy. Born 11 Sep 1893. She is shown in 1911 census as living in Blessington, Co Wicklow, assistant in her uncle and aunt's shop. Uncle's name was Simon White, wife Margaret. Marcella was married and  living in St Helens, Lancashire by c.1920 but can't find any details of her birth or siblings. Any help appreciated

Do you have a marriage record for Marcella ?

This should show her father's name and occupation which would probably help locate them on the 1901 census..

There's no sign of Marcella in the White household on the 1901 census returns, so presumably she was still in England (her place of birth) at that  stage ...

   White household, Blessington - 1901 (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Blessington/Blessington_Town/1810101/)

   White household - 1911 (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wicklow/Blessington/Blessington_Town/890508/)

Unfortunately the 1911 return doesn't state which part of England she was born.

could this be the marriage ?

  Marriage (FreeBMD)
  Quarter/Year : Dec 1916
  Ernest Heyes
  Marcella McCoy
  District : Prescot    (Lancashire)
  Volume 8b / Page 1115

p.s. just noticed that St. Helens is in this district.. so looks like it could fit your clue about Marcella's place of residence in c1920

Yes, that's a definite match for the marriage. I know she lived in St Helens from the time of her marriage until her death in 1967. I can't find out whether she was born in Ireland or in St Helens. I am thinking she was the neice of Margaret White, not Simon and if I could find out Margaret's maiden name (and details of her siblings) it may give some clue to Marcella's family. I'm finding tracing the female line so frustrating!

Thaks for your help

Please let me know   if and when you get the address  they lived at.

I have  McCoys  in my tree.     The McCoys of Fivemiletown.    many of them came over to Merseyside.
