I am researching the McClinton family, County Down, Ireland to Wigtownshire, Scotland.. In a few census records they (William,Mary and Robert and Mary) are listed as McClintock. I have found censuses with a family of John and Janet and children of County Down living in Stoneykirk, sometimes listed as McClinton or McClintock.. :P confused? Yep, me to... i am trying to make the connection between Robert (1821) (father) and William (1856) and John.. i know William is Roberts son and everything about John fits, just cant pin him down... also a possibilty that they changed their names from McClintock to McClinton? (if so, maybe why its hard to find records?) Hope i havent worked your brains to much. :) Jodi..

Hi Jim, I have John living in Stoneykirk in 1881,1891...birthdate is 1855. I think there might be a sister Mary also..i do not know the religion. I am unable to find any records before 1871 for any of the family members..i almost positive that john and william and mary are siblings..parents robert and mary were also living in Stoneykirk in the 1870s-80s so im guessing they moved as a family...Thanks,Jodi

Jim,i was able to check out the link you provided for me..i found a few family members that also had Patterson connections(which ihave Sarah Patterson in my tree as wife of Henry(no info to be found on him, possibly a middle name or mistake) if i can tie all these together,i might be getting somewhere...henry? and Sarah(Patterson)McClinton would have been born around 1800 in(im assuming) Ireland...i will not give up!! ;D..Jodi

Hello!(and Happy Holidays to all reading :)) So far i have not found anything for McClinton's in Ireland except the death records that state my gg-grandfather William McClinton was born Ireland. Certain records from his children show Belfast other records just state Down. It has been extremely hard getting past Robert(William's father) McClinton..Other connections would be John McClinton(brother of William) who also lived in the Stoneykirk? area. I have some info posted on my online family tree if you would like to compare? Best wishes,Jodi
