Greetings to all,
I am searching for descendants of Andrew Rood (sailor/mariner) born 1836 in Hamble, Hampshire & Sarah Hatcher born 1837 Milford Pennington Hampshire. They were married about 1858 in Southampton, we think Sarah passed sometime around 1881 but her surname could have been incorrectly transcribed as Rook. Any help with their dates and place of deaths would be appreciated. Its possible Andrew’s parents may be Richard & Charlotte Rood? Any more info about Andrew's career as a sailor/mariner would be appreciated also.
We think Andrew & Sarah had the following children.
1. Andrew born 1859 Lymington
2. Alice born 1864 Southampton married 1881 Henry Frederick August Heinecke
3. Arthur born 1867 Cowes Hampshire
4. Agatha born 1868 Cowes Hampshire
5. Amy born 1870 Cowes Hampshire
6. Albrech born 1873 Cowes Hampshire
7. Archibald born 1876 Cowes Hampshire, 1891 census shows he maybe on the Isle of Wight in a workhouse at age 15yrs.
I was told an 1871 census showed the family living at 3 York Street Northwood Hampshire.
Alice may have had a child by the name of Andrew Charles Archibald Ernest August Rood Heineck in 1881?
We need help finding out if any of the other children ever married and if there were any other children or grandchildren born to any of the 7 Rood children listed above?
Kind regards,
Stephen

If they are on the IOW, have you looked at the bmd indexes for there?
They can be very helpful.

We try to keep an ear out for useful indexes.
Try telephone directories for Rood living in Cowes.

Stephen did you check the marriages on the index Pauline gave?

Hello,
I gave information re this branch of the family on this thread:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,554186.20.html
It's a coincidence that you and jamison are both searching at the same time.
Also as rootschat is for searching ancestors, you should not publish names of people who may be still alive (as your list of names).

Hello Heywood, thanks very much for your postings on the link you have given above, I will keep an eye out there for any future postings. What advice can you kindly offer me...should I (cancel/close/or move) the info in this thread to the one you guys are using? or leave it on its own thread?
As you may guess, I am new to rootschat community & I have not been researching family history very long, however my research list of names are of my ancestors that very likely may have all passed on - not living people.
My apologies to the moderator of this board for listing birth details for my Rood family ancestors born between 1917 to 1942 in my post above.
Our extended family (here in Australia) had always wondered but could never figure out exactly where in 'Hampshire' the ancestors came from or precisely which family in England our connection was originally with until a little while ago.
I may sound a little bit 'silly' but it was not until I used my ancestors (the first John Hatcher of England & Janet Davidson of Scotland who arrived in Australia in late 1830's) children's names together with old style method of traditional family naming ways that I stumbled upon a promising Hatcher family link. My research approach is very broad and I do attempt to cover every single family connection name that turns up because, (call me crazy & sentimental) I believe every single person in my family tree is special & worth being remembered and secondly one day in the future I want to re establish my family connection back through our 171 years in Australia to the UK.
If I am very lucky maybe even find some living relations in the UK too if they find these postings we all leave here on rootsweb.
Hello Toni*, I only checked births, thanks for all the tips guys, much appreciated!
Kind regards,
Stephen

I have just seen your post regarding members of the Rood family from Hamble. My 3x Great Grandmother was Emma Rood, born about 1795 in Hamble. Her children, born from 1816 onwards were all born in Lambeth Surrey although I cannot ascertain if she was married in Hampshire or in the London/Surrey area. It is possible that Emma was the aunt of your relative and I would be interested if you had managed to trace the Rood family in Hamble back any further. I would also like to hear from any others with links to this family.
many thanks
Sue

G'day Sue, thanks for making contact.
I wish I had some news for you but I don't.
I have been researching some of the easier names on my "big" list, but I do intend to come back to this branch of my family tree in the future.
Please keep in touch.
Kind regards,
Stephen

Thanks for the quick response Stephen.
I may get lucky and find someone else researching this particular family. If I manage to find anything out I will be sure to let you know.
Kind regards
