Hello,
My Great x 2 Grandad George STOCKS was court martialed in 1884, in Co Cork.
He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment, but this commuted to 2 years.
Would anyone know if there where any Military Prisons in Ireland, or would he have been transferred back to one in England, where he was from.
He had re enlisted illegally three times after serving 6 years in the 1/14 foot regiment. he had used two different surnames, then his real surname.
I have not been able to find him on the 1891 or 1901 census, but he could have been using a different surname.

There was one in Cork - built in 1847. And another in Dublin.

Here is the 1901 census for the prison giving the parish etc - http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000511590/ - I think it was near Blackpool Market and the Dublin Road
Not sure of Dublin. It may have been at Arbour Hill, Kilmainham or Mountjoy. Someone on the Dublin pages may know.
What do you mean by 'standalone' prisons?

Hello Ken,
Found it!, Thank you.
There is a cemetery no to far away, which is my next line of enquiry.
What I meant by Standalone, as in not part the army barracks detention block.

They were run separately from the barracks.
