Title: Help for Hand
Post by: mandil on Monday 12 September 11 20:45 BST (UK)
I am looking for any info or relations of Francis Hand (13) and Michael Hand (14) who in1891 were in St. Joseph's industrial school in East Lothian. I know this is a long shot but the thing is that they were sent there from Dundee but there is no trace of them coming back so i just wondered if they stayed in that area and maybe settled there. They were my G/mothers brothers and i did,n't know about them till a few day's ago when i was looking on the Angus site for the Hand family. Would there be any way of maybe finding them through old school registers and where might I access them.

Hi Gnu
:)        I am astonished at how fast I .have had a reply. I really thought it was a very long shot but it looks like that you are spot on. the age is right and his parents names and wedding date are correct. Its amazing that a few days ago I knew nothing about them and now I have this information thanks to you and a couple of people on the Angus site .Will have to try to find .Francis now

                                            thanks again  Tom      :)

Hi Tom

At the moment the trail for Francis seems to run dry. There is a Frank sailing from Liverpool to USA in 1910 but I think he's shown as born England circa  1875 on the 1920 US census - and a poss for one with this name b. Barton in Irwell around that time, so that's a dead end  >:(

There is a tree on Ancestry which has him on it  - http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/pt/RequestTreeAccess.aspx?tid=8499585&pid=2019135399

but it's private and you or one of us would need to contact the tree owner for more info.

Hi Gnu    :)
I spent some time looking through the 1901 census for Francis and thought that I got him still in east lothian but when i went back to check i could,n't find him. I did find Hugh living in Hampshire, the age and his location of birth seemed right. I am not a member of the Ancestry site so cant access the family tree. I will still keep going and am much obliged for your imput.

                                                               Tom   :)

Hi Tom

I've heard from the tree owner but, unfortunately, I think she knows less than us about Francis. She just has him b. about 1878, Dundee. Her real interest is that Mary Hand (sister of Francis)  married one of her husband's great uncles.

She's quite happy to help with anything else if she can  :-\

Hi Gnu     :)
Thanks for looking into that family tree for me.Hard luck as i thought that maybe you had cracked it. Anyway  Gnu Mary was my paternal g/mother and I grew up round the corner from them so I would willingly pass on whatever family knowledge that i have that maybe of use.

                                                         Tom    :)
