Hi,
This is my first post, so, firstly, apologies if it's in the wrong place!
I'm trying to find the location of an address from a a 1920 birth certificate of my grandfather Harry Ferrier. The address given is '38 Barr Street, Poplar'.
I have looked at various street maps of Poplar (1867 onwards) and also of neighbouring Canning Town/Plaistow where the family resided in the 1911 census. (In addition to maps of today.)
The actual birth was at the mothers home in Commercial Road (Mile End Old Town SW) but it's the family's location at the time I'm looking for.
My g-grandfather was a dock labourer at the time of my grandfather's birth, so I'd assume Barr Street is somewhere nearby the local docks.
Any help from any map detectives would be very greatly appreciated.

Hello there and welcome to Rootschat ;D
Are you sure it says Barr Street- I'm not finding one in Poplar in the 1911 census?

I've found the following family in the 1901 census, living at 42 Bale Street, Mile End Old Town -
Charles Ferrier, head, 29, dock labourer
Annie Ferrier, wife, 26
Annie Ferrier, dau, 12
So it could be Bale Street you're looking for.

It's definitely Barr St (38).
In 1911 the father (then aged 13) was living in 20 Beale St.
It might be a new-ish road built after 1911?

Just a thought-Could it be Bath St, between East India Dock Rd & Poplar High St? Could you read the rr as th?

Thanks everybody. I was wondering if it was built post-1911, hence not beig on the census?
I did have a message to say that it's mentioned in some places as being off 'Ratcliffe Highway'. Not sure if anybody has any info on that?
Regards,
Andrew

Or did the registrar hear it as such and wrote the wrong word down?
