I am trying to find where my GG Grandmother was from. I have the following:
John Baird and Agnes Arthur were married 18, Mar 1832 in Barony, Lanarkshire. I have them in 1841 according to the Census living in Paisley Low, Renfrewshire with Robert (7), Lattazia (3), and John 1. James my g-grandfather was born in 1846 in New Kilpatrick but by the 1851 census she wasn't listed and I assumed she had died. I have no previous record of her or her mother or father or where she might have been born. Any information would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Christy

Hi Christy,
The Freecen site states that both John and Agnes were born in Ireland.

I did see that and I'm puzzled as the next 2 census have him born in Ayr. Not sure what to do next and how reliable the census was. It could be why I'm not finding them in Scotland. If you have any suggestions on what to do next please let me know. Still trying to navigate all of this. Thanks for the information.

As they married in Glasgow then that may be a very crude pointer to bride's early life perhaps?

It's such a pity that Agnes died before 1851 otherwise you may have been able to determine some more valuable information about her. It's always a disadvantage too when the death occurs before compulsory registration in 1855. :(
Perhaps someone might have access to the New Kilpatrick Cemetery records. It's possible Agnes' parents are named.
I've also had conflicting census returns and it only takes one to make you doubt the authenticity of the others. Sometimes you can work out what the grandparents would have been called via the traditional naming process...but there looks like there's a child missing btwn Robt and Letitcia which won't help. I suppose it's possible Agnes' mum was Letitcia?
I had a look on Ancestry too and unfortunately there are no others researching this particular family which may have shed some light on your brickwall.
Keep knocking...they come down eventually. :)

Thanks for responding, I'll keep looking and digging and hopefully something will come up.
Maybe something will come up on the New Kilpatrick cemetery. I'm not sure where she died but James her last son was born at Netherton Coal Works in New Kilpatrick in 1846 and they were still living there in the 1851 census and she wasn't listed then or the 1861.
Thanks for your help. :)
