Edward Blakey (1828) born Dolphinholme, Lancs, married to Jane, was a butcher/grocer living at 717 Wakefield Road, Bradford on 1891 census. Does anyone know where I might get more info on this? I want to know more about his business (or not) as a butcher/grocer but not sure where I would need to look. I believe that Edward died in 1897 as he was not on the 1901 census.

Hi Mandy
Have a look at Genuki directories of trades and professions - put Edward Blakey Bradford 1891 into the search engine.
Also you could look at the polling registers for Bradford and see who (over 21) lived at the Wakefield Road address in the years before and after 1891. They are held at Bradford Central library.

Hi Mandy
Cant tell you about his butchers business but Edward had some history.
He was born in Dolphinholome then was in Halifax, Yorkshire aged 12.
He married a Martha Johnson in 1848 and he was only 19. They had 4 children
before Martha died in 1874. They were living at Tong, by that time and in 1875 he re- married Jane Waddington in Bradford. By that time he was 46
They had 3 children and Edward died in 1897 as you mentioned. It does
say he was 69 in January 1897.
Edwards parents were called John and Mary.
Hope this helps

Hi Mandypea, just letting you know that my 3xgt grandfather was one of Edward's elder brothers. I am afraid I only have details of his first marriage and son Callin (sic), so much less than on here. Starting to fill out more details of the Blakey/Blacoe's so will let you know if I find anything.
