Hi I am trying find more information about my Great Grand father Richard Andrews born about 1845-46 in Oxford, England. Richard immigrated to NZ sometime during the 1864-68 time frame (still trying to verify). Richard died in Oamaru NZ in July 1932 aged 86. His fathers name was Isaac Andrews I pretty sure Isaac remained in England.

By 1871 it looks as if the family are split up as Charles and Ellen are listed as paupers in the Workhouse in Headington Oxfordshire.
George is a farm servant, lodging in Marston.
I cant see Richard, so that would fit with him emigrating in 1864.

This looks like Isaac's death
Deaths Dec 1866
Andrews Isaac 40 Headington 3a 372
Marston came under the Headington Registration district
Oh dear, this could be Ann's death
Deaths Dec 1864
Andrews Ann Headington 3a 391

Thanks Groom and Jan the information and feedback looks very promising.
Groom your later info regarding Charles & Ellen is sad.
Some of the names of Isaac and Ann's children are the same names that Richard and his NZ wife Margaret named their children in NZ there was a convention to of this back in those days.
It sort of blows my best guess for Richards birth period of 1845-46 away as 1861 - 13 = 1848 and 1851 -4 = 1847, it probably depends on the time of year the Cenus was gathered.
Isaac, Richards father is shown on Richard's death certificate as being a Labourer so that ties in, certainly it looks like a larger family than I expected. I really appreciate the information it will be a great help.
Cheers

Possible birth for Charles from http://www.freebmd.org.uk
Births Sep 1844
Andrews Charles Headington 16 59
Remember census ages are often out by a few years.

Tks Groom I do not think this can be Charles Andrews from the same family as the information from the 1861 Census had Charles at 4 years. Did you mean Richard?
I did find a record on a link to Roots-web UK site from our NZ Society of Genealogists (NZSG) for a Richard Andrews born as follows Births Jun 1845 (>99%)
Surname First Name(s) District Vol Page.
Andrews Richard Oxford 16 93
That was all the information I could access i.e. no father/mother listed, no other records popped up in the search but the date is certainly in the right period although if he was 13 in 1861 the date only rolls back to 1848 although you do mention ages on the Census could be out by a few years.
appreciate the feedback

Birth index on FindMyPast shows a Richard Andrews born 2Q 1847 Headington, vol 16, pg 55.

The Death Cert age of Richard may be whats wrong. The ages given are wholly dependant on the informant having correct knowledge.
Who was the informant?
What is his age on his NZ Marriage Cert?
If your Richard was born Oxfordshire with a Father Isaac, that is the only possible Census that fits.
Trish :)

Thanks Trish1120 & Denmart18.
I concur with your feedback/comments and while not true in all cases there are certainly situations where details entered on records have proven to be incorrect and this is certainly looking the case for our Richard Andrews.
Death record for Richard is July 6 1932, the age on his death is recorded as 86. The marriage record shows Richard at August 5 1878 DOM to be 30, to Margaret aged 19, at Oamaru NZ. The 2Q 1847 is closer fit that what I had previously.
Thanks again and I appreciate your interest.

Been quiet for a few days confirming information at the NZ End.
)I have searched the FreeBDM records and found a death record for a Mary Andrews Mar 1862 3a/367 at Headington and presume this will be the Mary Andrews 1 shown in Isaacs family in the 1861 Census Record
)I also found a record recording a Marriage of a Jane Andrews to Hubert Martin in Sept 1875 at Oxford 3a/892 this could potentially be Isaac's daughter Jane Andrews 9 from the 1861 census.
)If Charles and Ellen were in a workhouse in Headington, would they have eventually been released or discharged from the workhouse? I presume if I continue to search the freeBDM I may pick them up. I also note a few records may be online and one may need to know the 'Poor Law Union' responsible for the workhouse is there a register of these?
