I have had it confirmed that the grave of my Grandmother is at Flaybrick but has no memorial inscription, I don't have the grave number yet, but does anyone know if there is a map and if it is actually possible to locate an unmarked plot? They would be buried in the CofE part in 1929 and 1938.
Thanks

Depending on where (which Section) in the cemetery it is, you can usually get within a couple of feet of where the plot is.
Some sections are worse off than others, both in terms of numbering & ground condition.
You can see a map here:

Once you know the number let me know and I could give you a better idea of what the area is like.

Thanks for your help. I am hoping to do it all in one visit as live too far away, I guess there will be a way of identifying the plot with numbers at Birkenhead library.
-
Hi
From my experience, yes, you can identify the plot number at the library, but to locate it you'll need a plot map of the section from the office at Landican.
-
Thanks, I will contact Landican and see if they can help, but its looking like I might be pushed to try and do it all in a day unfortunately, if some research cant be done before the visit.

Hi
Just wondering if you've been able to find out any more information yet.
If not I can have a look for you next time I go to Birkenhead library where the burial records for Flaybrick cemetery are held on film(according to religion).
Maybe you could let us know their names and ages?

Neptune, I have not got further, thanks for the offer of help that would be brilliant :)
Religion CofE
I am told that my Grandmother and Aunt were buried in the same plot:
Elizabeth Cochrane (Maiden name Graham) died 1929 aged 42
Ella Snape (Maiden name Cochrane) died 1929 aged 24
I have been told there is a Francis Robert Corcoran (born 1901) buried in the same grave, I don't know his death date.
Thanks again for the offer of help.

Hi again,
Thanks for the info. Leave it with me and I'll see what I can find when I go to the Library, hopefully before the weekend.
I'll get back to you.

Hi
I went to the library tonight and looked through the C of E Burials for Flaybrick but couldn't see entries in either 1925 for Elizabeth Cochrane or in 1938 for Ella Snape.
However I did find them in the Non Conformist burials so have the details for you -
Flaybrick Non Conformist -
Elizabeth Cochrane age 42 wife of William 127 Livingstone Street Burial 18/5/1929 Private Grave Section 7 grave number 489
Ella Snape age 24 (spinster?) 20 Burrell Drive Moreton Burial 16/5/1938 Private grave Section 7 grave number 489
So they are buried together .
Although the record states Ella was a spinster there's a marriage on Free BMD for an Ella Cochrane to Lancelot Snape in the June quarter of 1936 in Wallasey.
There's a map at the entrance to Flaybrick which shows the section numbers. From memory I think the non-conformist section is on the left as you go in the main entrance.
Hope this helps

I now hope to get over to Flaybrick some time and visit the grave.
Thanks again for all your help :)

Elizabeth Cochrane age 42 wife of William 127 Livingstone Street Burial 18/5/1929 Private Grave Section 7 grave number 489
Livingstone St. - The site of the old Public Baths. Gone now of course.
Here's the section plan.
http://www.gavinrymill.com/flaybrick/flaybrick-cemetary-map.html
You may be lucky and be able to locate an unmarked grave, but when I tried there were so many unmarked ones and illegible stones that I needed the more detailed map of plots within the section.
HTH & best of luck

Thanks Les, as Neptune said its on the left as you walk in, I have looked at google maps and I think it may be as you found, as there does appear to be many unmarked graves. I have just phoned Landican and they will see what they can do, they said that the grave maps are in poor condition.
-
Its starting to look better, spoke to Landican cemetery, and they said that its on the left side as you walk in from Tollemache Rd, and that the grave is bordered by house bricks, there is no other done like this in the vicinity.

Hi again
We went to Flaybrick this evening on the way home to have a look for you. The grave was quite easy to find from your description(as there was no number but some close by were numbered)
Just about a hundred yards or so from the entrance. Although it is unmarked a few of the bricks are visible so you can see the position of the grave.
I took a few photographs for you if you would like to see them - and will send a pm.
