Title: Hand in dundee
Post by: mandil on Monday 05 September 11 22:22 BST (UK)
Wondering if anyone can help me trace the Hand family who at one time lived mainly in the Lochee area of Dundee. I have heard that Michael Hand  M  Mary Reilly in 1873. there were at least two children Mary and Hugh that I know off.  I heard that there were other children but their surname was Costello so i take it Mary had a second marriage. Hugh was killed in w.w.1 as he is remembered on a memorial tablet.
                                 and oblige Tom

Hi CaroleW and ev   :) I am back again and am totally amazed to find family that i knew nothing  about, thanks to you both. My g/mother was,n't born till 04-12-1882  and her name was Mary she only ever mentioned Hugh as being killed in the war so its good to know that there were other children. Regarding the 2nd  marriage I remember my aunty Kitty and my aunty Alice so that solves  my grans half sisters. I would like to know what happened to the other boys and if they came back to Dundee
                                                        Thanks again  Tom

 :)To CaroleW and Ev
Just to let you know that I have found some information on Francis and  Michael Hand re at the St. Josephs Ind. school in East Lothian. I posted a message on the East Lothian site and got a reply from GNU. You  are all a mine of  information and i just wish that i had started this years ago. Never the less i will try to keep plodding on.

                                     thanks a bundle again

I think you mean the 1891 census - see my reply above

If you look at the 1881 details I posted - Hannah does not appear.  If you look at the 1891 details - she is not shown as Hand - she was Hannah Costello

Hi CaroleW

Sorry for the error with the date. I also assumed wrongly that she was a Hand when looking below at my G/mothers name Mary. Must pay more attention when reading posts. Will take your advice CaroleW.
                                       Thanks once more
