Through a pretty stupid geographical error I have found myself the proud possessor of a PDF with the parish records of Misterton Leicestershire from 1558-1910. I am happy to do lookups for any with relies in this village so that my expensive mistake can be put to some use.

Dear Sarenid,
I am researching the Pulteney family (and their connections to Burton Overy.) If you have any info on them, or other families they married into eg. Walsh, Ward, Woodward(?) prior to around 1650 I'd be most grateful. I have a marriage of a Katherine Pulteney marrying Sir John Heron of Chipchase, Northumberland in 1550.

I have found various entries for Pultney/Poultney between 1594 & 1672 but other than references to Poultney/Pultney as a place nothing later than 1672.

I found no reference to Walsh or Woodward but a number for Ward although I am not sure how many will be relevant.

This is fabulous - thanks so much. I have a lot of scattered info from various sources, so am sure this will help to fill in the gaps.
I have also found some amazing photos of Pulteney memorial statue, and memorial in St Leonard's. If you google "Misterton", look for the 'flickr' link.

Tracing my wife's Cook family, and we found them in Walcote, Leicestershire, on the Censuses, which I believe is served by Misterton registers.
Would appreciate a lookup. We've no idea how prolific Cook is in this locality or how far back.
The earliest Cook we found was John Cook, who shows on the Censuses as born about 1812, possibly son of Joseph and Lucy Cook

A couple of odd entries
Baptism of Joseph with no parents named - frustrating for this line as it looks like John's father's baptism. As it is surrounded by other children with parents Thomas and Mary, one wonders if they are also his parents.
Then there is Lucy 1808 daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth. I wonder if that was mis-transcribed! and should be Elizabeth, d/o Joseph and Lucy!!
Anyway, it's all brilliant, and plenty for us to ruminate on!
Another question or two:
When does the baptism register go up to?
There are still Cook's in Walcote in the 1911 census, with young children.
Could they perhaps be baptised at another location? IE did Misterton stop being their 'local' at some point?

Had another look -
1. definitely no parents for Joseph but when going through the register given there is no other Cook couples baptising children at that time felt myself Joseph's parents were probably Thomas & Mary. Also the burial states Joseph was a parish clerk and this is borne out by the number of marriages he witnessed over a period of some 20 years. Prior to him it would seem Thomas Cook was also a parish clerk given he was witnessing marriages from as early as 1789 to 1806. The impression given by the registers, for what it is worth, certainly leads one to presume they were father and son.
2. Lucy daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth 1808. Like you I think it is probably a mistranscription at some point. The record below is an Elizabeth Clarke daughter of William & Elizabeth so it is possible at some point someone mistranscribed the name of Joseph's wife. I have certainly come across a similar mistake in my own family.
3. The last Cook entry is the burial of Kathleen Ann Cook age 47 of Hillcrest Walcote 21 January 1955. There are a large number of entries for Cook past the point I reached. I stopped once the bmd index contained age at death. But John Cook buried 14 October 1891 age 79 seems likely to be your John Cook given his age at death. If you give me names I can check the registers for their baptisms, marriages & burials.

I will take a look at what you've given me, and see what else might be useful.
John's son Thomas, moved on to Birmingham, but we'd quite like to fill out the families of other Cooks if possible.
Seems the Clerking of the Parish passed from Father to son. In the 1851/61 censuses, John is also the Parish Clerk - 1861 he was Parish Clerk/Gardener, but 1871 just Gardener.

I purchased it through Parish Chest- as I said in my first posting it was a somewhat expensive mistake as I thought I was purchasing Misterton Nottinghamshire. They do have a number of other parishes though and as you say it is very comprehensive just not for any of my relatives.

I am sorry about your mistake but I spent over 30 hours of my time indexing those Misterton records and it is a bit cheeky to put them out for public viewing. For what little monies we get for our registers it goes right back to the record office to purchase more fiche to index. One fiche costs 3.5pounds and Misterton was about 40 fiche big. That was 140 pounds out of my till. So please don't punish me or indexers like me who want to keep indexing by making our work free of charge.

I am researching a Joseph Clarke who I was told was buried at St. Leonard's in Misterton. Unfortunately I cannot find proof of his death date. I believe he was born in 1826 (another family member thinks 1818) with a suggested death date of 1893. He was married to Elizabeth Broughton. His father was William Clarke and his mother was Ann. Any information about Joseph, his wife or parents would be awesome! Thanks so much!
