Please could someone look up John Brier b c1828 in Hunslet/Rothwell for me. I'd really like to know who his parents were and when and where they were born, and occupation might help as well.
Much appreciated!

Hi
I have the 1851 census index for Hunslet and there are no Briers/Briars at all.

Thank you, Di.
Hmm - this is what I have:
From the marriage certificate, John Brier and Mary Mellor were married at Methley Parish Church on 22nd May 1853. John was a coalminer residing in Methley, apparently, (no address). His father was John Brier, another coalminer. Mary had no occupation, resided in Methley and her father was Samuel Mellor, a blacksmith. The marriage was witnessed by a John North and Ann Brier (who made her mark).
It looks as though he may have been in Methley in 1851 as well - you don't have that too, do you?
In later censuses he states that he was born in Hunslet (1861 and 1871) or Rothwell (1881).
I have a possible match for John snr in 1861 - born in Kirkburton and living in Rothwell with his daughter Easter [Esther?] and working as a coal miner, aged 59. What I'd like to do is match the two Johns to each other. As 'Easter' was born Rothwell, and John jnr was born Hunslet/Rothwell, which I believe run into one another, I assumed they were there in 1851.
Does your index for 1851 include Rothwell?
Thanks again for your help'
John

Sorry but I only have the 1851 census index for Hunslet and part of the one for Barnsley surnames J to R.
