Title: Doherty/Dougherty of Dunsford Co Down
Post by: Tetsy on Sunday 04 September 11 12:37 BST (UK)
Hi, I'm researching my family tree and would like to know if anyone has any information about the Dougherty/Doherty family in Dunsford, Co Down.  My great grandmother was Catherine Doherty, born in Dunsford around 1850? Father's name was John and mother Catherine. Don't know if she had any siblings.  She moved to Belfast and married in 1877.  I would be grateful for any help.  Thanks

Griffiths Valuation has a record of a John Doherty in Ballyhornan townland (Dunsfort Parish) in 1863 when he was renting a house, offices (outbuildings) and 20 acres of land. (Plot 1). Just to the west of the modern Ardglass Rd. Might be Catherine’s father. You would need to check parish records at PRONI, Belfast.

The Doherty family was still in the townland in the 1901 census:
