Title: Cause of death deciphering *completed*
Post by: johnbarr on Saturday 03 September 11 09:22 BST (UK)
I would welcome any help with the cause of death of Agnes Mitchell, nee Low in centre of this page.
Death was 1917 in Scotland.

Nearest I can guess is Pha..demic Wa...in of leg & back, but I cannot find any medical term that looks like that.

I would guess it is a variation of "phagedena" - a rapidly spreading ulcer

I'd go with phagedena ulceration of leg and back - looks like it may have been spelt phagedenia doesn't it!

It sounds pretty horrible to me.

phagedenic ulcer
1. a necrotic lesion associated with prominent tissue destruction, due to secondary bacterial invasion of an existing cutaneous lesion or of intact skin in a person with impaired resistance as the result of systemic disease
