Title: lookup request for St Martins in the Fields
Post by: LAYZELL on Wednesday 31 August 11 23:48 BST (UK)
Hi. Can anyone lookup the baptism of Thomas Eldred Lee in the St Martin in the Fields Parish Register.
IGI gives him baptised 15th August 1793, son of Thomas Lea and Sarah.
Is there any more information - I am wondering whether the father is Rev. Thomas Lee.

Thanks

Hi

The registers are not online as they are held at Westminster Archives. Volunteers for lookups in London Archives are few unfortunately. If you are not lucky you could consider contacting Westminster Archives. Since you have an exact date and church register they charge around £4 for a photocopy of a register.

hi lazell,

the film did not show the name you are seeking between june and october 1793.

the scan is difficult to read but in any case it simply shows the year date, persons name, mother and father's first names and registration date.

in other words, you have more information than is shown on the microfilm.

can you give me some more info such as where you obtained what you have at present so i can have another look.

Tony

Thanks for having a look .

The surname is Thomas Eldred Lea  not Lee as I gave, sorry

The info I have is from IGI and it is extracted from the birth record not submitted.

hello again lazell,

i am still having difficulty finding thomas,

i have observed that there is a vast difference between birth and christening dates, that is aperson may have been born in 1790 but not baptised until say 1794!

this leads me to believe (and the archive staff tend to concur) that the igi reference is incorrect, that is, the transcriber has got the dates wrong and or the parish register.

having said that i shall continue to search but i will not give a promise or time span as i revolve around the various family history outlets so i may not return to a specific one for a few weeks or more.

i have not given up and i shall post you anon either way.

Thanks so much for the time that you have put into this.
When I look on the IGI at the film reference many of the baptisms on the film do not have St Martins in the Fields as the place of baptism but just London. So you may be correct that IGI gives the wrong place. I will try to get in contact with the Family History Centre to try to find more about the film. But usually if IGI give a specific date and place and says it is extracted from the register, they are correct.
Thanks again for looking at this.

hi lazell
post me the film reference and i will check that way.

the family search centre is closed at present (they are at the national archives temporarily so you may not be able to contact them.

i don't give up easily hence it can take some time before i get back in contact with seekers.
