Can anyone help me trace my 2 great uncles William & David McEwan who were sent to Canada in the mid 1900's possibly through the Barnardo's migration scheme.
Not sure if the boys stayed together or if they were split up.
Sorry I don't have any more info, but owuld be grateful of any info. Thank you.

Can you give some idea of when they were born?
Have you checked for them on the 1911 census

Hi CaroleW.....William was born 6 Dec1904 & David 18 July 1908.
I can't find them on a 1911 census, but I believe they were still in the UK in 1916.
I have been told that they were livng in a Churh of England home, and sent to Canada through Barnardos.
One brother may have come back to the uk when hw became an adult.
Thanks for your interest............

Have now seen this other thread on McEwans http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,371137.10.html
The family is together on the 1911 UK census

Father Alexander Stobo McEwan's First World War army papers are viewable on Ancestry. There are 40 images. There is correspondence with Church of England Homes for Waifs and Strays concerning William and David.

Looking at passenger lists, there was a David McEwan , aged 16, of Liverpool, arrived Halifax Nova Scotia on the Aurania in March 1925. He was with a large number of children destined for the Marchmont Home, Belleville Ontario. They all are listed as coming from "Friend. Mrs Birt Sheltering Home, Myrtle Street, Liverpool".
David's name is endorsed with some handwriting that I can't quite make out.
"landing......." and a date

David is on this index of Marchmont children http://bellevillelibrary.com/photos/custom/Marchmont%20Home%20indexing%20project.pdf
and also on this listing http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tweetybirdgenealogy/marchchildMcMac.html
which is noted:
Wiliam Oudot, Farmer

I can't find them on a 1911 census
The free 1911 index shows only one entry for a David McEwan aged 2 - correctly spelt - living in West Derby
Follow the instructions below to see other members of the household
USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living
Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else
In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district
In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index
Click SEARCH
The 1911 census is strictly pay per view so you will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

Thank you for all the info regarding David & William McEwan.
It seems that William may not have gone to Canada after all, but David's last known whereabouts were in 1936 in South Porcupine, Ontario.
So, I wondered if anyone has any information regarding him from this point on. Anything would be great ....thank you :)
