Hi I am trying to find any details about the following. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.
Death of Quentin Lyle, born 1857 in Scotland. My family thinks that he may have died in West Haverstraw between 1889 and 1893.
Birth of John Fargie Lyle, born 1889 in New York.

On www.familysearch.org, the 1892 New York State census has a Quentin Lyle, age 33, b. Scotland listed as a bookbinder in Brooklyn. He is with Mary, age 31; Quentin Jr., age 9; Elizabeth, age 7; Jane, age 5; and John, age 3. All were born in Scotland and were aliens, except for John who was born in the US. Might those be your people?

That's the family I'm looking for. We belive that the father Quentin died in New York, which forced the family back to Scotland in 1893 but as of yet have been unable to find any death details for him. Also, I cannot find any record of him entering America.

If he may have died in New York state (outside of NY City), you could try requesting a look-up on the death index as described in this post: http://www.unyg.com/blog/index.php/2008/03/new-york-state-vital-records-microfiche-indexes-update/
In case it helps, the 1889-1890 Brooklyn city directory has Quentin Lyle, bookbinder, living at 193 Bridge.

Hi Louisecass, I am related to a different Quentin Lyle, from Edinburgh, but was wondering if the two were related in some way. If you look up a website, with Quentin Lyle Boer War, you will come across his family details. Anglo Boer War is the website. My Quentin was born in 1881, in Curries Close Edinburgh.
