Hello
I am looking for information on my Grandmothers side of the family.
My Grandmother is Eileen Emily Jones (1924-2007) but went by Emily. Her parents are Emily Eileen Jones (Jones is her maiden name and she went by Eileen) and she married George Jones.
I do not know where they were born except they were both born in 1889. George died feb 14, 1947 in Toronto and Emily died Apr 22, 1970 in Toronto Ontario.
Any information would be appriciated.

Did Emily Eileen and George have any other children or just your grandmother? If they did that might help track them down.
Do you have copies of George or Emily Eileen's death registrations? Privacy laws are still in effect but children of your grandmother (ie your parent or a sibling of your parent) would qualify as extended kin in order to purchase copies and the registrations may have information that would help with your search. If all of George and Emily Eileen's grandchildren are deceased, then you may then qualify as extended kin. Here's a link to the website:

George and Emily Jones had several children, Clara, Eileen (my grandma), Edgar, Edwin, Living Jones, Living Jones, May.
I have a beaten up copy of thier obituaries and i do know where they are buried just not any other information.

I was going to suggest you apply for your mother's long form full birth certificate but looked and Ontario does not say place of birth of parents...

Still having a difficult time finding information on George and Emily Jones.
Don't know what to do next. I did find their gravesites at st johns of norway cemetery and a bit more information on there children but notheing on when they were born or where. Nor who their parents are.
Hopeing to find that one piece of information that will open up a whole lot of info.

Have you tried contacting the cemetery directly? They may have additional information in the burial records.

Yes I went and visited the cemetery and talked to them in person and I wrote them an email for more information as when I was there I was looking for my grnadfathers side as well and they told me to email them and they would look it up for me. But have not heard back yet but it has only been a day or two.

I have heard back from the cemetery but they did not have any other information that they could give me.
Hopeing that someone can help me. Tried talking to the last serviving children of george jones and emily jones but they can not remember due to dementia and confusion. Hopeing for some other ways to find out the information.

What addresses did George and his wife live at in Toronto?
The deaths from JJs link show that both George and Emily Jones were born in England.
Death for Gladys Cook (nee Jones) - her father George of 104 Gamble Avenue was the informant and she is buried St. John's Norway.
Death for Robert in 1922 - burial at Norway cemetery and address for George was 234A Torrance
Death for Hazel gave her father's address as 167 Gamble and burial at St. John's. Gladys was born July 12, 1917 Toronto.

My mom does not recall if her grandparents george and Emily jones were born in canada or else where.
Also she does not know what george's occupation was as he was dead before she was born.
She did say that they lived in toronto on Badger or bager rd
will try and talk to my moms eldest sibiling to find out if he can remember any other detail.

Your first list of children didn't mention Gladys. Do you think that the death for Gladys Cook could be yours. Perhaps someone can look up her obituary in the Toronto Star for you and see if it contains pertinent information such as siblings.
You could also contact the Toronto library and ask for a lookup in their city directories. Track George Jones by name and see how many there were, where they lived, their occupations. Sometimes the wife's name is also given. If the children went out to work and still remained at home their presence in the same household as George would be important information.

Torrance road is just a wee strip of road, and he was obviously in an apartment...so likely only the apt. owner/head would be listed anyway... but the street isn't listed for any George Jones in 1921 either... odd....
Guess the 1921 census will tell you his occupation, which will help point him out on the ship's lists.
ShaunJ how did you get the 1922 directory to open for you, I have never been able to get it to work??

The description of Todmorden is the wording from the 1921 directory.

In the 1922 Directory for Todmorden , below the entry for the Geo Jones at 147A Gamble Ave, is this one:

Ah, Torrens is only a block away from Gamble as well, so the person taking the info may have thought he meant Torrance... ;D Sorry, Chanti , this doesn't help the search much does it... but they are thorough, as they are searching for the addresses from the earlier listings.
There are a couple of other Jones, thomases, Grocer & stonecutter at 305 Torrens, but this may not be close enough to be a clue...Just in case there may be a tie-in down the road ( mind you, looking back they lived on more addresses on Gamble)

As for gladys Jones being a sibling I found it on a beat up obituarty on a back of a photo.

Glady's obit is in the Dec 2 1937 edition of the Toronto Star - at page 44. Unfortunately, no parents or siblings mentioned, but she was 20 years old and her husband was Howard Cook of 104 (I think - it is hard to read) Gamble Avenue. Her name her is Gladys Jones Cook and she died at the East General Hospital on Dec 1st.
The address fits with other information in this thread for this family.

Ok so found the obits for both George jones and Emily jones in the toronto star pages from the past.
Both obituraries only mentions the childern and Gladys Jones is not one of them. I thought that I read it on a beat up obit that Gladys was. Maybe she is a cousin or something not sure except that she is buried in one of George Jones is buriel plots with a May Pengelly (Jones) My grandmas sister.
Emily jones death date is April 22, 1970 - Toronto
George Jones is death date is February 14, 1947 - Toronto

Perhaps they only mentioned the living children in their obits? The Gladys who may be yours died in 1937.

ShaunJ thanks for the links on the PM it is the obit for my grandma that you found and I never knew they had an online guest book. The Clara cook is my grandmas sister.
Now to try and find out George and Emily's Parents and so on.....

Ok so I found out that George and Emily Jones had 10 Children Gladys, Clara, Eileen, Robert, Hazel, Edwin, Edgar, May, George and the last remaining Jones.
I talked to my Great Aunt Jones the one that is still living and she said that there was 10 kids all together and that Hazel and robert died at a young age and Gladys when she was in her 20s. Thats all we were able to get from her so far as we were at her brothers funeral. this week.
So we are on the right track.

Jacquie suggested applying for Ontario death registrations for either George or Emily. Why not apply for George's - most likely the informant would have been his wife and she most probably knew his parents information. You've found obituaries and they haven't been useful. It seems like a logical step to take. The cost is minimal and it doesn't take that long to receive them.

Yes I have done that just waiting to get them back from the government right now. They costed $22.00 each. Also the daughter of my great aunt that is still living has been working on the tree to so we are going to compare notes. I only found that out tues. So I am hopefully moving forward.

So I found out more information on George Jones. His parents names are George Jones and Eliza Clara Tuner and he was born in England.
As for Emily Eileen Jones have not found anything yet but got in contact with different relatives so waiting back to hear from them.
Still not heard back from the goverment yet on the forms I requested. Man they are slow. Oh well

Marriages Dec. quarter 1866 Wolverhampton vol.6b p.785 matches the info found by Shaunj Rosanna SALMON and Edward Turner ( there is a birth reg for a Roseanna 1847 and christening for a Rosanna parents Samuel & hannah https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J3LH-ML8)

If the Rose Jones Wyatt who married in Toronto is yours - her death is in the Toronto Star on April 22, 1997, pg D23. She died on April 20th. She has 3 children (all named in the obit) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is buried at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
It looks like you have more Canadian relatives!! :)

The marriage registration of Rose Jones shows her address as 167 Gamble Ave. Todmorden. One of the witnesses was Fred Turner of 146 Gowan Ave. Todmorden.

Yes my Great Aunt Jones that is still living says they live at 165 Gamble Rd and other family members lived as 167 Gamble Rd.
Louise Jones who married Berttie Stroud is Rose and George Jones sister.
Yes I do have a lot of Canadian Relatives and as I have been making way with other sides of the family tree I have relatives in Australia and scotland, USA and others.
I will look into the hints that has been provided and try to get the Toronto Star pages from the past again.
