I am having a problem tracing Daniel KALCHER married to Lilian SMITH in Exeter. I know they lived in London, but having a real problem getting solid BMD for them. And their ancestors... I need to go back as far as I can for my son's school project!!

Believe the marriage was 1931... want to find out their occupations etc for project and those of their ancestors...

There is a death for a Daniel Kalcher in the Hackney District of London in 1948-Volume 5c,Page 562.His birthyear is given as c 1906.Therein lies the problem as I can't find his birth anywhere in England or Wales at about this time.

The marriage is registered at Exeter Oct-Dec 1931 bride Lilian M Smith Vol 6b p 240.

That marraige certificate is the starting point as it will state who his father was and their occupartions, the same for the bride and the names of witnesses are often of interest. Buy the certificate.

I think the name might have changed Kalaher or something like it!

1948 death apparently was from pulmonary TB 22nd May.

On a free search of the 1911 census there is a Daniel Kalcher in an institution born Clerkenwell. The age given is 36 and he appears to be the son of Maurice aged 38 on the 1881 census in Clerkenwell and born Ireland so perhaps some connection with this family. If so expect some variations in the spelling of the surname e.g. Kalecher.

Daniel and Lilian M Kalcher appear to have had up to six children born between 1932 and 1939.I can't name them publicly on here as they could well be still alive.I'll send a PM.

Well there is definitely more than one Daniel Kalcher. They may or may not be related. I think we have to wait to see what details the Daniel you are interested in gave about his father (may or may not have to take it with a 'pinch of salt') on his marriage certificate.
