Hello all
I'm hoping someone could look up the 1861 census for Wednesbury for me. I'm looking for the family of my gr grandfather Alfred Stanton b abt 1847 W.Bromwich.On immigration records his mother was Harriet (I THINK she lived at Whitton Lane in 1881)and had at least one sister, Mary Amelia. He came to Australia in 1879 with his wife Zillah Partridge b 1839 w. Bromwich.
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks

The following is the only Stanton listed in the Index for Wednesbury in -1851-. Piece 2027 Folio 213. It is difficult to read because of abbreviations and the surname looks like Staunton to me,however I searched for Alfred before reading the second part of your message regarding his mothers name. Here is what I have.
105 Potters Lane Wednesbury
John Greaves Head Mar, 46, Smith,
S? wife Mar 44, Laundress
S? Dau UnM 18 Ditto
J on? Son Un M 16 Smith
R Son 12/14 Scholar
JH? son 10 Scholar
AM? Dau 5
Har* Sta(u)nton Mar 24 Visiter
Rich* ditto Mar 27 ditto , Smith
Alf * ditto Son 4 Scholar
Selina ditto Dau 2
All are born Wednesbury
There is a marriage on the IGI between a Richard Stanton and a Harriett Graves 21.7.1845 at St Mathew, Walsall, which may be worth a look.
I hope that some of this fits!

Only Stanton I find on Potters Lane in 1861 is Henry aged 56, wife Catherine,53, and a young neice with different name.
Wednesbury too large to search without an address. Sorry.
Decided to try Witton Lane in 1871 and found this:
West Bromwich, Parliamentry borough of Wednesbury, St James ecc district.

;D
Thank you so much Robin Hood and Gardener!,
Selina is one of the sisters who went to Australia before Alfred did. The ages fit. And Alfred was a blacksmith in Aust in 1900. So I'm happy. Other sister Mary Amelia not born til 1853. I wonder where they all were in 1861?
If you should happen to come across Zillah Partridge in your travels, any info on her family would go down well. I assume she was from Wednesbury as well but not sure.
Anyway many thanks again. Anything I can help with in Australia let me know

Sorry. I cannot find Zilla in Wednesbury 1851 at the moment. I will check a bit further afield when time allows.
