I am looking for information on Sarah Ann Caple, born abt 1837 in Winscombe, Somerset. I know there was a Sarah Caple who was born around 1813, so perhaps she was her aunt. Sarah Ann Caple was my great-great grandmother - married to Philip Dumbrell of Brighton. Sarah's mother seems to have remarried, as in the 1851 census Sarah is the stepdaughter (and daughter) of John and Jane Mabbett in Winscombe.
I would really appreciate anymore information on the Caple family.
Many thanks,
Dianne.

Hi,
Found on origins.plus.com/winscombe
Sarah Ann Caple daughter of James and Jane. Woodborough, Winscombe. Baptised 22 May 1836. Father a Blacksmith.
James and Jane also had a son John Edmund baptised 12 Jan 1834.
No marriage record for James & Jane and burial records only go to 1838.

Many thanks. It looks as if James passed away at some time, and Jane remarried John Mabbett. Thanks for the lead about origins.plus - am also tracing the Strodes of Glastonbury.
Dianne.

There is a record of John Mabbett marrying in Axbridge in the first quarter of 1842 on FreeBMD and also a record for Jane Caple marrying same quarter Axbridge. Possibly the two you need.
My family are from the Glastonbury area, not a lot of records about but more are getting transcribed now.

Sarah Ann Caple was baptised in Winscombe on 22 May 1836, daughter of James and Jane Caple. Her elder brother John (second name variously transcribed as Edward or Edmund) was baptised there on 13 Jan 1834.
A James Caple and Jane Clark were married at St Paul's, Bristol on 11 Apr 1833. Given John's baptism 10 month later and the fact that the Bristol parishes were the places where a number of people from north Somerset married, this marriage is a strong possibility for you.
The 1841 census for Woodborough within the parish of Winscombe has Jane Caple as head of household aged 25-29 with the two children Sarah (5) and John (7) and John Mabbett aged 20-24. Sarah is described as a smith and so was probably carrying on the dead husband's trade with the aid of John Mabbett who is a journeyman smith according to the census.
Freebmd has two possible deaths for James Caple, Dec Qtr 1839 or Mar Qtr 1841.
