Have tried to obtain birth cert. for my grandmother,. Born 1891. According to family members born Co. Dublin. Have tried to obtain copy myself when in Dublin. No luck. Have then tried Roscommon, have date of birth and name of father. They checked city of dublin and co. dublin. No luck. Have checked c ensus 1901 and 1911 and both confirm born Co. Dublin. Is it possible she wasn't registered? Or is it possble census incorrect. Any advice appreciated.
Very interested when Pro Cathedral records go on line, as my father's parents marriage should be there, as they lived in Gloucester street.

do you have a marriage cert for Frances ?
That should show her father's name and occupation, which could help locate him on the census..
Do you know any other details on the family ... e.g. siblings, mother's name etc

I think I misread your post... you already have the family on the census returns.
Ages on the census returns are not always 100% accurate so it's worth trying a few years either side of 1891 for the birth.
Have you been able to find births for any of her siblings ?

Many thanks for reply. Roscommon checked 5 years either side of 1891 and could find no record of her.
As they will only check a county at a time, I think this is my only option. Find it hard to believe that both censuses are wrong but obviously they are. Was clutching at straws really. She was married in north Dublin but don't know date so will have to wait for Dublin parishes to go on line to get this.
Appreciate your prompt reply.

if the census states 'Co. Dublin' as place of birth, then it's likely she was born outside the city somewhere. The IrishGenealogy website concentrates on parish records for the city.
A few births did miss out of registration, even at this time. It might be worth trying for one of her siblings birth certs instead to confirm your details and a location for the family
Do you know the name of Frances' mother ?

I'm guessing the marriage would be 1911 or later ?
Most of the online parish records only cover dates up to about 1900 - so it would probably be better to try the civil BMD Index for the marriage. I could search for a possible marriage for you if you post her husbands name...

Many thanks for reply. Appreciate your help. Her husband's details are as follows;
Thomas Reilly b. 25.7.1891.
Father; Patrick Reilly
Mother; Mary Anne nee Kavanagh
Marriage was between 1911 - 1916
Lived on Malahide Road West prior to marriage.
Frances Callaghan
Father Joseph Callaghan
Mother Mary (gelsenan?)
Lived on Russell Avenue.
I appreciate your help. Details of the marriage would be very useful.

havn't been able to locate a marriage so far... there are plenty of Thomas [O']Reilly marriages, but very few possibles for Frances. The only one in Dublin around the right time seems to be a little too late (1918), and doesn't cross match with a Thomas Reilly..
Name: Frances O'Callaghan

Many thanks for your help. My mother was born 1917. I can only think they got married after that!!
I am going to try for my grandmother's siblings birth cert. It was very kind of you to go to so much trouble.

Obbie
Your post Francis Callaghan, Dub. North, vol 2, page 487 could be her as her birth date is
30.11.1891. Also my mother was Frances and apparently she was registered as Francis and put with the males. It took lots of visits by her father to get her birth cert. when she needed a passport.
The Bernard Callaghan you refer to could be her brother, as the dates fit.
Many thanks. Turvey.
