Familysearch has a baptism for Hester BROAD 18th November 1751 parents William & Mary at Plaxtol. Plaxtol is not very far away but is the date too early?
-

There were 2 Hester Broad's born to William and Mary Broad of Ryarsh. One Hester born about 1747 died 14th March 1750. There were 8 children from the family who died in childhood.

Sarah 11/3/1750 Aged 13 yrs
William 14/3/1750 Aged 11 yrs
Henry 14/3/1750 Aged 10 yrs
Eliabeth 22/3/1750 Aged 7 yrs
Margarett 11/3/1750 Aged 6 yrs
Hester 14/3/1750 Aged 3 yrs
Ann 7/7/1746 Aged 1 month
William Broad of Calais Court, Parish of Ryarsh died 25/11/1774 aged 77 yrs.

Children Mary, Frances and Hester.
I found this on Plaxtol Churchyard MI's.
Hope this is the same Hester you were looking for.

I wonder if there is any reason given for the deaths in the parish registers.
To lose 6 children in 11 days would have been remarkable even in those days. :'(
-
The records don't say what they died of. Looking at the Parish Records again I realise the dates are for burial and not death. I am not related, I just came across them whilst looking for my family. I am visiting the Plaxtol Archives next wednesday and will ask if there is any information there about them. Their parent's burial records states they are both from " Callis Court, Parish of Ryarsh ". All their children were Christened in Plaxtol Church.

Many thanks bearcat and maryia for the info, I have been on holiday and have on just caught up with my emails. I will look into the info given and and am sure it is what I have been looking for. Regards Poppyann

6 of the burials for the dead children were within a few days of eachother (several on the same day) which would indicate to me an epidemic. Lots to choose from in those days - smallpox, cholera, typhoid, typhus, or indeed something that nowadays would be treated quite easily, but which caused dehydration through diarrhoea and vomiting.
-
John also died 14th March 1750 not 1758 according to his age. I also have a list of the children's Christenings dates if you would like them.
-
The year of death's in Plaxtol Parish records is given as 1749 , 1750 is on the LDS site !
-
Hi maryia, yes I would appreciate the baptisms. Many thanks Poppyann
-
I found this today which explains the difference in death years of the family. The following applies to another family. the baptism of W*** C******* is quoted in the modern calender convention. Strictly this date should be given as 22 Feb 1749/50 since the year used to change not on Jan 1st but 25th March (until 1752). The 31st Dec 1749 was followed by 1st Jan 1749 etc. The original register would have given Feb 1749, but in modern terms the baptism was in 1750. Hope this is clear .
I have attached Broad Christenings all at Plaxtol Church.

Thanks for the info maryia.

I visited Plaxtol today. Attached is a photo of the Broad Family Headstone. Unfortunately you can't read the engraving as the sun was too bright. The second photo is the top of the stone which I found a picture of in Old Soar Manor. When the Archivist is back I will ask him if he has any further information.

Hi Poppyann
Just joined RootsChat and was delighted to find your entries for Hester Broad. I realise that this is an old post now but have you found the info you requested? Hester Broad was my 5xgtGrandmother, are you related?
I have not as yet completed much research on the Broad family except to confirm that her parents were William & Mary. Have got alot of info on Fremlins.
Also have you been to Ryarsh churchyard where Hester & William are buried? They are beside Williams parents William & Eleanor.
I expect you have discovered the marriage date by now and the fact that although they were married in June their first child was born in November of the same year.
Regards Val :)

Hi Westfrem, my husband is connected with Hester down the Fremlin line and into the Buggs family. Regards Poppyann

Hi, Sorry to post to such an old thread, My family line is connected to Hester Broad - my West line goes back through Parris and Fremlin to Hester Broad then I get stuck due to conflicting or missing information from Ancestry.co.uk and findmypast. Funnily enough my West line then reconnects back up to the Broad line at my Grandparents generation. Does someone have dates for births and marriages and citations? I especially would like to get Hester's Birth date, Death and Parents details. Also if anyone has corresponding census information as it would seem there are a number of similar named marriages at that time
