Hello

I've never needed to look up anything in the US before and not sure where to start.

My g-g-g-grandfather, Thomas Clothier (b.1822) is documented as being born in Ditcheat, Somerset, UK, and living there right through to the 1891 census.  But then I can find no record of him, and unlike the rest of his family there is no burial record.

Then I found him on this website: http://www.thetreeofus.net/8/231268.html
with the intriguing information: Died 6 Jun 1893, Bedminster, Somerset, New Jersey USA at age 71

Unfortunately the poster of that information can't remember the source or any further details.

Does anyone know how I can find out more?

I would guess it is a mixup - there is a Bedminster, Somerset (Bristol area), and a Thomas Clothier passed away there, June quarter 1893 (freebmd.rootsweb.com), aged 72.  Not that far from Ditcheat, and quite reasonable to expect that he was living in the area by the time of his death - either having family there or staying at a hospital or institution.

There is also a Bedminster, Somerset County, New Jersey - possibly this got confused when noting things down or when entering them onto the site, especially if the site is US-focused.
