I would like to find one of my ancestors a John Wray born in1779 married to a Rebecca 1786 from Lincolnshire- they had a Benjamin Wray born in 1815 in England and Carl Wray and several others- would like info on John Wray before he emigrated to Canada 1828

Hi there
I think this is your Johns family.
His parents were Edward and Ann Storm who married 0n 20th November
1774 in Burton on Stather.
The children were Mary b 1774
Sarah 1778
JOHN c 17th May 1780
Ann 1783
Thomas 1785
Samuel 1787
Elizabeth 1791
There could have been other children but these are all I can find
John married Elizabeth Johnson on 18th November 1806 at
Barton upon Humber
Children were
Ann b 1807 at Broughton
cant find any more until
Benjamin twin christened 19th October 1817
Cecil Twin " "
they were christened at Deeping Market
Samuel b 1819 at Burton on Stather
John and Elizabeth seem to have moved about. Probably was
an agricultural labourer. Cant find out yet if that is correct.
These villages are not too far from each other and in those
days you went where the work was.
I presume your Carl Wray was Cecil. Unusual name Carl for those
days>
hope this helps

John married Elizabeth Johnson on 18th November 1806
Rebecca I think ;) "Elizabeth" has been deleted and "Rebecca" added http://www.lincstothepast.com/Marriages/513061.record?ImageId=40881&pt=T
... but, if we are moving people the length of this (large) county, we shouldn't ignore
5 March 1810 at Hogsthorpe
John WRAY to Rebecca CRAFT (wid)
These villages are not too far from each other
- nearly 80 miles http://tinyurl.com/3rkma29
Yes, I thought the same re Carl/Cecil :)
EDIT: Register appears to have Cecil ... father was a Farmer

Hi thank you for replying to my post. First, yes it is Cecil not Carl- my mistake. I have a Family Record written by Benjamin Wray' son- William- written in 1910.. it does say Rebecca but it could be Elizabeth as one of their daughters is Elizabeth and it seems that most families name their child after a parent..The list I have for children of John and Elizabeth/Rebecca are as follows in no particular order: William, Medelton,Benjamin, John and Seth--and daughters Susan(married name Rountree), mary Ann(Evenston) Ann(Machinter or Mashiter) Harriet(Farr) and Elizabeth( Parkinson).I have John born in 1779 and Rebecca/Elizabeth as 1786.. Dates can be ??as my GGGrandfather-William wrote this when he was 68--he was born in 1842--i do have the dates of Benjamin's children..so wonderful that you found John's parents!--also i have a christening record of Mary ann being christened in Hogsthorpe in 1811 -June so it could be Rebecca 1810 hogsthorpe-- -love to find out more. Could it be that John married twice--look forward to hearing from you! Thanks

:) I found a census in Canada that has Rebecca living with one of her children-John Wray in 1861-

Looking again at IGI baptisms, a John and Rebecca WRAY continued having children at Burton on Stather until 1819. As Burton is just a few miles from Barton upon Humber, it seems more likely that this was the couple who married at Barton and that that particular John and Rebecca WRAY did not move to Market Deeping.
This now of course throws into doubt the parentage of John WRAY, as the one born in Burton upon Stather seems less likely. :(
I suspect Rebecca CRAFT (wid) had been Rebecca MARR who had married John CRAFT at Trusthorpe 9 April 1806 (one child, John, July 1806)
in which case, there is this possibilty,
Baptised 19 Feb 1775 at Trusthorpe
Jno WRAY, son of Jno and Elianor
The only Rebecca MARR I can find was bap 1791 which makes her a bit young for marriage in 1806, but you never know ;)

I do apologise if I have found the wrong person.
I dont know why I thought it was Elizabeth and not Rebecca.
The children I found definitely had a Mother Elizabeth.
Unforuntately I am going away for a few days now, not because
I made a mistake lol, so cant sort my mistake out for a few days.
Thanks Geoff for the nudge
speak soon

Hi all
Does that measn that Rebeca Marr-Craft married a Craft not John Wray- as you said in you post Rebeca married a John Craft--I know that a distant relative-suspects a Rebecca Marr- but wouldn't John Craft should be John Wray---pls clarify
-
Benjamin Wary is definitely one of the sons! I have notes from his Son-William Wray- with a sketch of Benjamin's family--John And Rebecca are listed as parents..
-
Rebecca (nee MARR) married twice
1) to John CRAFT
2) as a widow to John WRAY
I have only found one child of the first marriage (John 1806, as noted above, he died 1829 Hogsthorpe), which may suggest that John CRAFT may have died soon after 1806 - but I haven't found a burial for him - leaving Rebecca free to marry again. There is no other instance of a CRAFT marrying a Rebecca in my index, so I can't see how there was another Rebecca CRAFT (wid) who could have married John WRAY.

Does your info then also confirm that Benjamin Wray and twin Cecil are the children of John Wray and Rebecca Marr-as it says that Benjamin was christened in Deeping market.April 1815
. Your post suggest that they did not move to Deeping...pls clarify

I was talking about the other John WRAY and Rebecca who went on having kids at Burton on Stather - so did not move to Market Deeping.
I have already posted a link to the baptisms of the twin sons of John and Rebecca at Market Deeping ... but I will post it again :) The date was actually 19 Oct 1817.
