Title: Jamaica: Migration
Post by: coppers on Saturday 20 August 11 23:12 BST (UK)
Evening.  Just a general query at this stage.  I have a friend who is seeking information about his birth.  He doesnt know if it was registered in Uk then he was taken to Jamaica as a young boy or if he was born & registered in Jamaica.

I have serched BMD for UK and no registry.  I am assuming if he was born here then was takento Jamaica on fathers passport birth would have to be registered to be added to fathers passport.  So does this mean it is likely he was born in Jamica?

If he was born in UK, could his name be completly different as a new birth cert / passport could have been issued once family returned to Jamaica?

Any clues would be gratefully recived.  Does any one know if there is an easy way to search Jamaican birth records circa 1958 on line?

Many thanks

Hi I am not an expert on this field but have been researching my family tree for a couple of years.  I doubt there would be records online for that time period due to restrictions on living persons, most births go up to 1930 at present.  You may have to contact the Jamaican records office in St Catherine I believe there is a facility that you can order certs online for a fee but personally have not tried it.  http://www.rgd.gov.jm/
